SFF Forum Giveaway: Win an ASRock Fatal1ty X370-Gaming ITX/AC, or a surprise swag package!

Not open for further replies.
Apologies for the wait on this, everyone, but I think you'll agree that it has been worth it! As was previously announced a few weeks ago, I'm excited to launch our first-ever giveaway of a motherboard, and a really solid one at that: the ASRock Fatal1ty X370-Gaming ITX/AC.

John's excellent review of this board (alongside its sibling AB350 variant) is available here. As of this posting, this board is available on Amazon for a tad below $160. Overall, the board is an excellent entry into the AM4 ITX space, and makes for a solid platform with which to construct a Ryzen rig. We can't wait to send it along to a good home.

But wait, there's more! We're breaking open the SFF Network Swag Vault (read: @PlayfulPhoenix's closet) and drawing from some of the piles of gear that we received from companies during Computex 2017. We have three swag packages ready to ship that contain a selection gear from the likes of Biostar, Corsair, FSP, Noctua, SilverStone, and Zotac. A motherboard they may not be, but some of this stuff is pretty neat - my particular favorite has to be the miniature Noctua fan keychains, though!

So how do you enter the giveaway? Simple: just post on this thread, sharing your current build or one you're planning to create! Using Random.org, we will select our winners at 8PM EST on October 20th.

This giveaway is open worldwide, except where prohibited. No purchase necessary, and the usual T+C's apply.

Current build, quite old but still powerful enough for whatever task I throw at it. It also runs ROTR, Metro 2033 & Metro Last Light at around 30-50 fps, so I can't complain (customized settings tho).

CPU: Intel - Core i5-4570 (non K)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L12 (overkill but darn quiet)
Motherboard: Asus H87 ITX Plus (*@#$!! board as the USB 3.0 header is very near to the CPU socket. It's right under my Noctua fins and I have to use low profile USB 3.0 header from Moddiy)
Memory: Kingston Low Profile 8GB (cheap, good)
Storage: WD 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Video Card: Zotac 950 2GB ITX
Case: Silverstone SG08
Power Supply: Silverstone 600 Watt
Monitor: Dell U2412M ( 1200p goodness - means a few more lines of code before I need to scroll )

in for the motherboard, please!

About to finish up my Timbre S4 Mini build which is in this thread:

https://smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/nfc-s4-mini-182-timbre.1692/

Been waiting on this, @Kmpkt!

As for me and my next build going into this contest, putting together a pretty workstation (GIS, geoprocessing, scientific data work) with some new and some reused parts.

- Jonsbo U1 Plus (~11.5L, not extreme SFF, but beautiful. Shout out to @wiretap for helping with specific measurements and info on this before order!)
- i5-6500 (will throw an i7 Skylake in this when Coffee Lake drives 4 core parts down in price)
- 16GB DDR4 2300
- EVGA 1060 6GB
- Corsair SF450
- Samsung M.2 NVME boot/apps and Crucial SSD storage (HDD never again!)
- Still toying on which CPU coolers to go with, but I like the price/performance of the Phanteks TC12LS. Looking for something bigger than my NHL9i to get a 120mm fan pushing some air onto the mobo for overall lower system temps. I have the space, might as well use it. Any suggestions on a good downdraft 120mm cooler that has space between the heat-sink and board to get that airflow, PM me and share.

Good luck all!

>>> EDIT: Drop this entry completely. Sorry ,_, <<<

gonna copypaste that lower third and add a bit:
  • i7-6800K
    • running at stock because apparently slime rancher doesn't like the slight OC instability. also staying there just in case it happens for other programs untill I can figure out if it's not cooling enough or I lost the lottery hard
    • There's the 8700K now, but I'm still okay up to the point intel decides the mainstream users should get 28 PCIe lanes.
  • noctua NH-C14S
    • on a separate note: I'm looking into a small / medium-flat CPU cooler as a nice-to-have for when another project only comes with an intel box cooler. so far I'm waiting for Cryorig's copper lineup to materialise, and @Kmpkt's SFF cooler as well
    • maybe on the old rig I still haven't got a disk to run on too
  • ASUS X99M WS
    • kinda lamenting that the m.2 slot on the board only does PCIe 2.0. x2.
    • dammit I wish ASUS did more boards to that finpipe style.
  • Palit GTX 1060 6G Dual Fan
    • that rumor of the 1070ti sounds a bit enticing though.
    • going on this bent for a while: kinda amused that nvidia redid their model tiers within the same generation
  • Silverstone SX 700LPT
    • replaced fan with a Noctua NF-A12x15 PWM controlled by the motherboard
    • tiny! nice to hold on hand! not as small as regular SFX PSUs, but still much smaller than that brick we call ATX
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 4x 8GB 3000mhz (edit: typo)
    • not running at full speed because see CPU
  • some m.2 drives
    • probably one NVMe SSD
    • Previously on Gear Acquisition Syndrome: Startech's 3.5" 4-stick SATA M.2 bay (OEM probably Addonics). It's things like these that makes me want to switch from 2.5" disks to M.2 sticks exclusively
    • maybe i'll use regular disk form factors for a NAS instead
All parted out for a:
  • KI Cerberus
    • c:
    • currently in a HAF XB
So that's my halfstation PC. Muscle for 3D, video and possibly image processing work, and occasionally the few games (imagine buff guy not using a trolley to carry heavy stuff to checkout in a mart or grocer's)

A bit off topic: someone I know just asked me for build advice, and when I suggested an R7 he was like "everyone at work thinks AMD CPUs are unstable and are still kinda wary of them now, so umm uhhh yeah...?" how do i even

EDIT: to go on a bit more: what would I do with an extra ITX PC? travel rig, most probably. Looking to make the Cerberus travel worthy, but for now most lower volume ITX cases are backpack friendly, so yeah.

Current build is archaic...

Intel i5 750 CPU
Nvidia GTX 650 Ti GPU
4GB DDR3 RAM
120GB SATA II SSD

Future build could be either Ryzen / RX Vega or Coffee Lake / GTX 1070 Ti...

Or maybe Ryzen / GTX 1070 Ti...?

Or maybe hold out until Volta drops...?

Definitely go with 16GB DDR4 RAM & a 500GB Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe SSD...

Or whole hog with 32GB RAM & a 1TB 960 EVO...

A number of cases are possibilities...

NCASE M1, Fire's MI-6, Lazer3D's LZ7; of course, the last two would require ITX GPUs; so either RX Vega Nano (whenever that comes about), or the Gigabyte GTX 1080 Mini...

If NCASE M1, then full custom loop water cooled...

Then there is the Ghost, which could allow stacking Top Hats for an EKWB 240 Predator on the CPU &, if Top Hats are also stacked below the main chassis, an EKWB 240 Predator on the bottom for the GPU...?

I dunno at this point, but snagging the ASRock AM4 ITX mobo would definitely decide the CPU route, which in turn may just decide the GPU route...!

and the usual T+C's apply.

What does "T+C" mean?

The actual entry:

Currently planning and building custom computer based on the Original Xbox case. It is here where the mobo would find its home.

Mobo: AsRock Fatal1ty X370 or B350 mITX
CPU: Any Ryzen CPU. Most probably 1500X, but still undecided
CPU cooler: Noctua NH-L9a
RAM: G.Skill Aegis 16 GB (haven't decided on speed yet). Choses as they do not have any bulky heatsink, but still look better than the green PCB. :p
GPU: MSI GTX 1050 Ti OC LP (planned support for long single-slot GPU beneath the mobo as well; think GTX 1070 Katana or Quadro P4000)
Fan-support: Most likely 3x 60x60x15 mm intake fans + CPU cooler fan. Depending on GPU-setup, there might also be room for additional 3x 60 or 50 mm fans. PERHAPS!
PSU: HDPLEX 300W + Dell 330W Powerbrick
Storage support: M.2 (depending on mobo) + Up to 4x 2.5" 9.5 mm drives (or 1x 3.5" HDD + M.2, but that would seriously disrupt airflow. If used with single slot GPU, this might be reduced to M.2 only.
ODD: 9.5 mm Slim Blu-ray drive
Front IO: 2x USB3.0 + 2x USB2.0 ports

Point is to create a system that really resembles an original Xbox as much as possible, yet house a powerful system. And an important thing for me is to also support modifications down the line. Most other Xbox-builds I've seen have components such as fans glued to the build. They are also removing the original aluminum cage, which is what I restrict myself to.

I'm on a laptop now but working on an easy to carry ITX Ryzen build. 1800X, a low profile 1050ti and G-unique PSU are definitely going to be there. The case is most critical and haven't decided on any. I'm eyeing Realan E-i7, while dreaming about Lone L4 and Aiboh's Jolokia.

Picked up a node 202 with the included psu for 35 bucks on Craigslist last night and threw a build together. Runs well.

Specs
Fractal Node 202
Asus z97i
Xeon e3 1275L v3 CPU
L9i cooler
16gb GSkill 2133 ddr3
Evo 250g 2.5in ssd
1Tb seagate 2.5 hdd
Asus reference gtx 980
Included 450w psu which I believe is made for Fractal by FSP

Stole the gpu from my Ryzen project so it's down for a bit
