I'm not disputing your points, they are valid and you're entitled to think that and I do partly agree.

But I also value frames per watt, probably as much, if not more than frames per $. People paid well above the frames per $ value for the A2000, simply because it offered buckets more performance than the next best thing available in low profile, I think that tells you that some people value power efficiency more.

This forum focuses on SFF and for us power budgets are limited, so for allot of people with for example a 200w PSU, you can now get nearly twice the FPS than was previously possible (i.e. 3050 + 65w CPU vs 4060 + 65w CPU). Whether you want to call it a 4050 or a 4060 is besides the point in my eyes if you're getting double the FPS in scenarios such as this one.

stating a more fervent love of low-profile/more efficient cards than most. I do think you're right on the money here. I'm insanely interested in the LP 4060 and relative to the world we just came from where a LP 3050 was $1,000 for the longest time, i do think it is really cool to have something that will fit in smaller chassis without having to muck around with the awkward size and thermals of itx gpus is really interesting. Setting aside the A2000, which is by far the outlier in terms of frames per $, I'm all in for a $300 lp card that can hang with a 1080 ti after buying lp 1650s and 6400s for around $200. I really do think the efficiencies of the last 2 gens have gone ignored (3060 ti is still my favorite release of the past few years). its somewhat ironic to think that a lp version of the 4060 coming out at launch probably would have done a fair bit to improve its reception.

That all said, i am somewhat sad it had to be gigabutt that makes the card over some of the better options, but hopefully, it sells well and others follow suit.

anyway, regardless if the price for a RTX 4060 is "justified" or not - for people who need/want a LP GPU it is good news that there's finally something new on the horizon, apart from the 1500$$$ RTX 4000 SFF ADA

Providing this doesn't launch at an obscene premium, I'll likely grab one to replace my A2000. This is the only scenario that makes the 4060 even remotely attractive - I'd still rather have a 3060 LP, though, if it existed.

To put this card into perspective, the RTX 4000 SFF is 2% above the 4060 on Techpowerup. That's a $1500 card vs. this soon-to-be ~$300 card.

The 4060 is also 189% of the A2000 with 8GB vs 6GB on the base model. This is the best 4060 in existence that can truly justify its price to performance. Someone at Gigabyte looked at this and realized it's the best way to dump these parts and the 4 memory chips make this very cost-effective to build.

I'm just hoping that this encourages some new low-profile cards (especially if they are higher in the stack). Would be good to see an AMD equivalent as well.

This. I 100% get the hate for the 4060 from a price/perf perspective, but from a perf/watt perspective, the 4060 and 4060Ti are very interesting products.

For a LP card I consider a 128bit Bus with 4 memory chips the sweet spot, so from that perspective it does make sense. However, I think this is only the second time ever that we see a LP card with a TDP above 75W and a power connector. (and previous time was like 10 years ago from some obscure brand) From that perspective this is a truly baffling product. Also this thing will NOT be silent, so again, it's appeal seems limited to crazy hobbyists like us and people that want run CUDA farms on a budget or something.

And that second potential use case is why I am afraid that we will never see this product... maybe it is a custom design for an enterprise customer that wants to cram a ton of these in server racks, to effectively get the same performance as the RTX 4000 for a third the price. I genuinely do not see how any consumer outside of this forum would be interested in this product.

It's also a niche, but much larger then in the west... especially the low cost cards are quite popular...

some small companies in China have even focused completely on LP GPUs and offering such gems like this LP SS RTX 3050 8GB (mobile)

that being said, I'm constantly hitting the refresh button on JD and Taobao to see when this RTX 4060 LP will show up

I saw this the other day on Reddit. This might be my next step over A2000, however don't know how long it is and if it fits into Stratos X and if i can power it with HDPlex 250w GaN. Lots of questions on my mind..

Even if the length is prohibitive, I imagine it would be easy to lose one fan to fit into smaller cases.
Definitely going to pick one up for my work pc rebuild, currently in a loque ghost, hoping to reach 1/2 that volume

250W should be fine, since this shouldn't draw more than 115W (especially with a mild undervolt/custom voltage curve in Afterburner) and if you have a 65W CPU.

My plan is to use this for 60fps gaming (at the highest settings and resolution possible, depending on the game), combined with a Ryzen 5500 or 5600 undervolted and locked to 40-45W or so (should be more than enough for 60fps). I am hoping I can achieve this with a total system power draw of 180W or less.

Similar plan for my ZS-A4DC rig - Gunna upgrade it from the 9700T to my 5600G.

I might add a small fan to blow a little air at the 250W GaN though, because it gets pretty warm just pulling 140-150W to run the 9700T & A2000 in there at the moment. There might just be enough room to mount a slim 80mm fan or two in the bottom. Well, "mount" is a strong word... more likely a little 3M gell tape

Overlaying the side shots available with other cards we know the length of, it looks like the card is 180mm long and the PCB with the power connector on the end is 160mm:

I roughly scaled the images of this card with pixels compared to known lengths and it comes out to around 185mm by ratio. A little long for my planned/ purchased case but the shroud looks to be extra long and could be trimmed

Even if you trim the shroud, the 8pin connector sticks out the back, so unless you get some special low profile connectors, the total length will still be 180-185mm. My J-Hack Mk2 is 190mm long so I am hopeful

If that's the situation then going off the SFF Reddit parts list, the only sub-10 litre cases that would work are the Lazer3D HT5 & Cravo, the J-Hack Pure MK2 and the Metal Fish S2.
