That's really interesting that your shipping rates are more expensive than what my case ships for. Your guy's case is ~11.7 lbs compared to my case which is ~13.4 lbs. The most expensive shipping quote I have gotten was $120 and that was to Australia.

Shipping to European countries is around $70-85 for my case, personally. Very odd indeed...

Yeah, that's basically what we had expected the cost to be, for the EU at least We're trying to figure out why it's more via our fulfillment partner currently.

Out of curiosity, are you just shipping via UPS/FedEx? What tier of shipping are you using?

I thought you were going to fund through Indiegogo. Not that I'm complaining about Kickstarter. But I'm curious how you changed your minds about the crowfunding.

Regardless, you guys did a great job presenting everything. Looks really professional! Good luck with the Kickstarter!

I'm assuming it's the same in the US as in the Netherlands. There are brackets. Over here anything between 5kg and 10kg is priced the same.
So assuming 11.7lbs and 13.4lbs are between the 10lbs and 15/20lbs bracket you pay the same.
KI is taking the highest shipping rate for all non-US countries, which makes sense from a management perspective.

Also lets not forget, they are shipping rates from a fulfillment center, so it probably isn't only the shipping price but also some handling fees.

We'll have to wait and see where the final shipping price ends up.

The prices up now are those that we know we can get, so they're only conservative in the sense that we think we can do better, but just haven't confirmed as such.

The fulfillment cost is mostly built-in to the price of the enclosures, and isn't that much relative to the cost of shipping anyway.

If and when we can lock down better shipping prices, we'll update the KS and notify everyone!

I am shipping all international orders by USPS. Domestic orders ship via FedEx. Shipping via USPS is the Priority Mail International.

But it's still way to much money. They're pricing them selves out for many people. 370-80$ is way to much for one case. Thats ex. vat which mostly is 19-25% (in europe at least). I can't justify 475$ on a case, no matter how much I want it.

I don't think I'm the only one that feels this way.

@Aibohphobia @PlayfulPhoenix please DON'T use USPS for European shipping, I'd rather pay 120$ than have to deal with our government's customs again. I'd rather have painful surgery than have anything valuable shipped in with USPS.

I believe you are in Belgium if I remember correctly? I had a customer from Belgium and his case was delayed in customs for only a few days and only had to pay 30 euros or so in taxes.

You're not. Obviously, we can't do anything about VAT, but we're doing what we can, and looking into every avenue we find, to lower EU/Asia shipping costs as much as possible, promise!

Oh my, $470 Canadian Rupees + customs. I hope that since the case is made in USA, I don't have to pay customs? I really want this case though, so maybe i'll bite the bullet. A bigger bullet than I though. Although, we were warned...

Hence why I went for the basic model. I'm confident that I can afford that right now and that any extra cost, I'll be able to pay when the time comes.

Hey fellow Canadian! I intend to get my case shipped to my mail box in Washington to save a bit on shipping and customs. If you live in BC, there are companies that provide boxes for Canadians in Point Roberts (I use In and Out Parcel) and Blaine, Washington. If you live in Ontario, I am certain there are companies that do this in Detroit or Buffalo. If you are in Alberta or other provinces, while there may be providers, I don't know if it would be worthwhile for you. My box costs me $3.75 USD per package with no other fees. Something to consider.

I really hope that you guys will be able to lower the shipping. I'll watch the KS closely, since I really want to support you guys.

Hello!!

My parents are near Toronto, and I'm in Halifax :(

How does this work?

In essence, signing up for a mail box with a shipping company allows you to have a US billing and shipping address. Different companies have different rates per package received, but they generally range from $3-5 per package. You order something online, state your shipping address as the one provided by the shipping company with the unique box number and wait for the package to arrive. Once the package arrives, my shipping company sends me an email with a PIN code I enter when I get there, and that PIN unlocks my mailbox. Once you pick up your package, you go back into Canada as normal and tell the border officer that you received an X package worth $X and show them the invoice if needed (most of the time they don't bother). If the amount is under a certain threshold, they will let you into Canada as usual. Sometimes, depending on the officer and the value, they will ask you to come inside to clear customs and pay your dues. I haven't had the pleasure of going inside to pay anything yet, but something worth $250 may make it necessary.

It may sound complicated, but it's pretty straightforward. I find that it is worth it to me and a short trip to Point Roberts when I visit my mother in a nearby town is simple enough. I've saved a few hundred dollars in shipping charges last year, but your mileage may vary.

I looked around, and your options are either
A: Drive yourself to Maine, either Houlton or Calais and set up a mailbox. (It's a 5 hour drive, so maybe not worthwhile)
B: Have your parents drive to Niagara Falls NY (Parcel Donkey, Secure Mailboxes..., NewYorkMailbox, 24/7 Parcel, etc.), Buffalo NY (CrossBorder Express, etc), or Port Huron and Detroit (may be too far unless they live in London or Kitchener or something).

I'm saying it's an option ;)

That 480$ is for the basic model...

I can afford it, but not justify it.
I know what you mean, but if you look at it like this. This is literally the last matx case you will ever need. Also when they are gone they are gone. If you try to buy a compact splash or any other Ltd edition specialist type case the prices are through the roof. This is as cheap as they are going to get and in time they could be an appreciating asset. My money is on will be.

I'm justifying it by not wanting to regret missing out.

Similar process for me using UPS in Ogdensburg, NY. No box number to rent, just $5 (US) per package per week. Declare at the border and then (usually) stroll inside to pay the HST. That plus gas (don't forget to fill up for cheap in the US) and the bridge toll to cross the St. Lawrence and it's still usually worth the hour drive from Ottawa.
