Years ago, the SFF community waited with bated breath for the ASRock DeskMini A300. With AMD APU support, it offered a better balance than Intel chips between the CPU and GPU. This SFF Gem was the ideal Deskmini, and the SFF Network community rallied around it by creating custom 3D printed casesBIOS updates, and more.
Now, the times have changed and AMD’s AM5 platform has arrived. Again, the SFF community waited. It felt like ages but ASRocks X600 DeskMini is finally here.
Asrock was kind enough to send a sample unit to Small Form Factor Network for testing and review. No review guidance was...

Because synthetic benchmarks s*cks I tried some in my game.
default ram in this runs is 6400 Mhz, even with stock TDP.
There are 2 pictures.. one for CPU test and one for GPU test.

>no overclocking
>RAM OCed to 5600MT/s

pick one
sorry for inaccuracy, it was meant as overclocking the processor, ...but as I found out, the memory frequency has perhaps the biggest impact on system stability and currently I leave the setting on auto which means 5200MHz at 1.1V and everything runs rock solid (but in the meantime I also updated the drivers so who knows what it was)

Just assembled recently:
AsRock Deskmini x600, Bios 4.03
AMD Ryzen 7 8700g
Thermalright ASF Black V2 AM5
Thermalright AXP90-X47 FULL with Noctua NF-A9x14 PWM
Crucial 64GB DDR5 RAM, 5600MHz (CT2K32G56C46S5)
Crucial T500 2TB
Thermalright HR10 Pro
Intel AX200

... and so far, more than happy with it.
While assembling CPU cooler with Noctua fan was just the right fit, If it was a original fan for sure it would bent a tiny bit side panel.
When I was installing Thermalright AXP90-X47, original backplate from AMD was tinny bit challenging for the original screw tightener to be used, but was manageable.

Hey guys! Is the x600 current bios letting you adjust vDimm ? How high can you set memory voltages? Thanks

How do you monitor the CPU temp on this platform under linux? I am on ubuntu 24.04, and I can't figure it out.

# sensors-detect version 3.6.0
# System: ASRock X600-ITX [Default string]
# Kernel: 6.8.0-79-generic x86_64
# Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 8600G w/ Radeon 760M Graphics (25/117/2)

does not find anything.

Have you tried a different distro yet? Never had any issues with reading out at least the most basic CPU thermal information (eg. my "future" system is running an Ryzen 7950X on an ASRock PG650-E mainboard, and I can comfortably read out the CPU, wifi, and SSD thermals just by running the ``sensors`` command).

I think the original package was once called lmsensors. I'm on Debian though, and Ubuntu has diverted a lot since they started as a Debian derivate.

Hi everyone,

I would like to ask you about the stability of the X600, because I came across a thread on the ASRock forum where several people complain about its stability under load, and you also mention this here. I haven't bought it yet, I'm doing some research.
I use Linux on a daily basis and would like to ask those of you who also use it whether the suspend mode (s3? modern suspend?) works normally for you, because there are generally quite a few problems with this on AMD motherboards.

On fedora I have found it pretty much unusable with a 8700g for intensive GPU tasks such as gaming with the XMP at above 5600. Loads of screen artefacts and random Wayland crashes etc. On windows it's much better but still some artifacts now and again. Others may be happier but my advice is don't bother with it if you are using Linux for gaming. Day to day general use seems fine.

Yes, per your linked article, Zen4 has 28x PCIe5.0 lanes on the onboard IO controller

So I mean it's theoretically possible, but I'm not sure you'll ever see it happen, it would depend on how board manufacturers design the PCB in terms of physical/electrical/signal performance but more importantly how they would be able to market it and actually make money. I'm not entirely sure how it's relevant to this board, however, as there's no x16 slot anyway - only 2x M.2 slots (one of each 5.0 and 4.0)
Do you think it’s possible to use the M.2 wifi slot with a converter and add a ssd as a boot medium?

Should work without any converter. Just add a normal 2280 SSD and be happy. Even ASRock wrote it:

but they only talk about the dedicated nvme slots as bootdrive options, no?
the m.2_3(wifi/bluetooth) slot is also key e and since i only have a 2230 nvme drive i will go with the adapter. the only thing i’m worried about is that the m.2_3 slot may not support enough pcie lanes to boot from or has the wrong voltage or resistance settings soldered onto the board :( because than i’m kinda lost what to try next

My bad, I was thinking you talk about the 2 normal slots, as you quoted a post related to these two.

You can contact ASRock directly. Usually they forward your question to Asia and answer within a couple of weeks ;)

Hello everyone, I just made an account today to ask some specific questions about the deskmini. I just built myself a deskmini setup (sadly not the USB4 version because it hasn't been sold in my country yet) as a replacement for laptop. I'm an illustrator and paired my deskmini with a display pen tablet and it has been working wonderfully so far. I have been using it extensively for my portable use whenever I'm working outside (like in a cafe or a library) and found no problem with the setup just yet.

1. I'm interested in pairing it with an oculink EGPU for my gaming use whenever i'm at home. What do you think is the best GPU to pair with the 8700g in my system? would the rtx 5070ti be too much for this setup in your opinion?
2. I just saw an ad for this portable UPS system by Ugreen UGREEN NAS 120W DC Uninterruptible Power Supply – UGREEN NAS US But the reviewer of the product said that it was only compatible with select Ugreen NAS system and it was not advertised for a general use case like powering a mini pc is case of a blackout. But it should work fine as a portable UPS solution when you use it on it's own, no? I'm not really sure about how it works, but seeing as both the deskmini and the UPS is rated as 120 watt, should it be usable if I don't use all the advertised feature that needed the USB-C connection like the autoshutdown in case of a blackout and just use it as a regular UPS solution as it is designed to be?

You will need to monitor that the system is not consuming more than 120W, during all scenarios. For this you will need a power draw measurement device with precise/fast logging. Because UPSes will often be quite strict about the power draw limit. I'm not sure about this one but for desktop and server models, UPSes will often sound an alarm at the limit and most won't exceed even 10% (sometimes less) of power draw even momentarily. This is also true when the use is with power from the grid.

Did anyone get the DeskMini x600/usb4 version? Any experiences with it? How is the USB4 connection?

for anyone stumbling about this having the same question: it works! running proxmox on the m.2_3 slot with mirrored nvme‘s with a truenas vm which is using the sata ssd’s with pcie passthrough.
