The more I'm thinking of my usage (mostly gaming aiming 4k) the more i think i can limit my cpu choice to 7700k price range (am4 4/8 could enter the game also) and focus on sli/cf..:)

That's definitely makes more sense to me..:) i was thinking of sli of gtx 1070 or similar vega gpu.

That seems like a reasonable conclusion to me. PCI-e bandwidth between the processor and GPU's isn't as important, especially with high-efficiency graphics API's like DirectX12 and Vulkan.

Supposedly, the RX 490 will be comparable to the GTX 1080, so I wouldn't think pricing will be too different, either. But for gaming at 4K, you may want to consider SLI 1080's or CF 490's, anyhow.

Well sli of gtx 1080 is completely out of question right due to price..:) also we still don't know what will be the rx490...we will see..:)

It looks like a proper board, can't wait to install one in a Cerberus-X :D

Ahah Phuncz, you can go for cerberus-x? What do you plan to use as cpu , am4?

For my personal needs, I identified combo Asrock z270 Extreme 4 (10 phases on cpu, includes directly HD sli bridge, compatible with my black/white with red touch theme, 185€ vat incl in France) + core i7 7700K as the benchmark to beat in ratio cost/performance in order to make an SLI.

Let's see what will have AM4 to fight vs that combo..:)

I'm adding a new constraint on cpu platform. I'm planning to use my apogee drive ii that is compatible with 115x, 2011, am3 (before)
In combo of apogee drive i'll use radiator/reservoir combo (swiftech) located at bottom of the case.

That means mainly I won't go for ryzen.

I don't want to go for x99 (even with my dual channel ram) as its performance ipc per core is the lowest vs kabylake or ryzen, and its cost is too too high( could be improved thanks to ryzen).
So it should be either kabylake or x299 platform..:)

Currently there are too many incoming release to decide clearly :
  • Release date of Vega (from end of may to July as forecasted of real avaibility of Vega). High end Vega or GTX 1080ti/Titan X is clearly GPU power I need (play 4K with low impact on quality settings)
  • Clearly if I wait for Vega release, I will also wait for X299 release (August), especially as summer vacation is the period when I'm using my PC the less (strangely...:)).
So question is : will I wait for Vega or go for GTX 1080ti if she goes in late february..:) I was never more tempted to switch to Nvidia GPU...especially as I'm currently enjoying to play with my HTPC (MSI GTX1070 Gaming X, low noise on load, no coil whine, excellent 1440p performance).
Clearly, the best reward to wait for Vega and Ryzen is to get the best ratio performance/price.

In conclusion, I'm currently lost...lol

There are hints towards MSI releasing ITX sized GTX1070/1080 ... To be taken with a punce of salt though. Wait and see ... https://videocardz.com/65813/msi-teases-new-mini-itx-graphics-card

Wait and see indeed, so far MSi has only let on big punch in a small card and showed a silhouette in front of their most incognito looking current gen card.
Sorta exciting though which they probably want us to feel so we see it being released with a connection to it.. ie higer chance we buy it.

Well i've just watched a pretty interesting video comparing, at least, vcore required to oc the same cpu between 2 motherboards ( z270 extreme 4 and msi gaming m7)...i must admit that i'm a bit shocked by additional vcore required on asrock vs msi board...

Well, with Ryzen release, my new benchmark MB is now MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon.

Why?
  • RAM speed : up to 3200MHz
  • Color theme : All black with some RGB lightning...target is Red or White LED light
  • SLI/ CF compatible (dual gpu is still an option for me now)
  • Price : 209€ (I won't need extreme performance from Asus Crosshair or MSI Titanium)
Now let's see some reviews.

For CPU, I'm balancing between R7 1700 or R7 1800X...everything depends on Ryzen overclocking

another good point about this X370 pro carbon is gap (2 slots) between pci-e 16x slots, that allow far better cooling on multi gpu setup..:D

With first complete and trusted Ryzen CPU, for my needs ( gaming + some video production), I guess core i7 7700k remains the benchmark, for me.
