Had my workstation opened up to diagnose some bad RAM (eventually realized this is what was making the OpenCore installation unstable), and figured I'd shorten up the HDPlex cables a bit.

I didn't have any male ATX pins, so I could only modify the inlet section (fine, as it was the longer of the two). Made a totally new EPS connector—and I'm glad I did, because the double crimps on the DC-ATX 4-pin end were pretty bad (the pins didn't cover or grip the insulation at all).

Ended up putting in a new SSD (WD SN750), and installing macOS Big Sur. Humming along just fine, but waiting on Corsair to respond to an RMA for the bad DIMM.

What is the diameter of the DC input hole on the back of the case? Does it support 5.5x2.5mm DC input jack with screws? I browsed the discussion and find that we can use 7.4x5.0mm DC input jack from HDPLEX, but I wonder if we can use 5.5x2.5mm with smaller diameter (11mm).

I want one of these so bad, but just cannot justify the cost when i don't 'need' it for my home server :( cost plus shipping to Australia is a killer on a lot of these cases.
I have a dream server build in one of these in my head right now with a 5700G, dual pcie 4xnvme cards (one using an nvme to pci riser from a motherboard pci slot) to have 8 nvme drive all flash nas, and a smaller nvme in the second mobo slot for OS/hypervisor boot.
Just need to find the LP 4x nvme cards, and work out if I can do it brick less, which should be easy enough these days.

My L5 build...
MOBO: Gigabyte Aorus x570i Pro Wifi
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
CPU Cooler: Scythe Big Shuriken 3
GPU: Gigabyte 1650 LP GDDR6
STORAGE: 1TB Intel 660P NVME SSD
RAM: 32GB G.Skill RGB 3600mhz
PSU: G-Unique Arch Daemon DC-ATX
FANS: Noctua Chromax NF-A12x15 and 2x NF-A8

Thanks for looking!
Can you please show me a photo for the DC input jack on the rear of the case? I cannot figure out what the DC input jack used by the G-Unique arch deamon DC-ATX which is specially designed for L5.

My L5 arrived earlier than I thought! It feels and looks very well made. My previous SFF cases were Lian Li PC-Q50, TT V1 and Metis Plus so this is a very big downsizing for me. ?

  • Ryzen 3700x
  • MSI B450i
  • Ballistix Sport LT 2x16GB 3200c16
  • Intel 660p 2TB
  • MSI GT 1030 DDR5 2GB fanless
  • Mini-com picoPSU-160-XT & 192W AC-DC external brick
  • Noctua NH-L12S
  • 2x Noctua NF-A8
Build photos
Have you changed the DC input jack of picoPSU-160? The original one is the 5.5x2.5mm DC jack.

Plans for my Mister setup might be changing hence why I've gone quiet on it, but in other news, if there is a GPU perfect for this case, this is it: https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-rtx-a2000-desktop-workstation-graphics-card-is-low-profile
Le nani !?! I was almost getting a Quadro T1000 ... glad I procrastinated ... again :D. That's an awesome link you gave us.

EDIT: Lets hope that it's not too long. It might also have a power connector at the back, as often with Quadro/Tesla, since the laptop version has a 95W TDP (but they could simply undervolt/clock it to fit the 75W envelope).

5.5x2.5 is supported using a separate hole located at the rear.

Anyone thinking of buying a modern APU for the L5, might want to consider the other options before picking up a B550i Aorus Pro AX. The board basically has no LLC implementation on the VSOC rail (that UMC, IF and iGPU all run on), so it will be a major headache trying to max out the IF and/or iGPU as you will be dealing with Vdroop almost 0.1V under iGPU load, which will instantly kill your IF stability at 2000MHz+. Medium/High/Turbo/Extreme LLC all behave the same.

Band-aid is simply to set higher VSOC, but at that point you'll be running 1.35V+ just to stabilize DDR4-4400......

It's been like this since what, F10 BIOS? Wouldn't expect Gigabyte to fix this problem unless someone has insider contacts, most of their contact links are broken.

Replaced the Aorus AX with the Gaming Edge Wifi MAX today, and it behaves as expected even at middle-of-the-road LLC settings, roughly 20-30mV of droop. Same settings are therefore doable at just 1.2-1.21V compared to 1.26V. Also more consistent iGPU performance.

Obviously, disregard if running dGPU in the L5, but the droop may still affect your IF OC.

Only concern I have is PSU. I'm guessing you would need a G-Unique for this. Hoping GAN brings a high wattage Pico unit and brick at some point.

I use the following setup with my Lone L5 and G-Unique Arch Daemon DC-ATX PSU:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5700G m. Thermalright AXP-100 C65 m. Noctua NF-A12x14 PWM (30%)
Board: Gigabyte B550i AORUS Pro AX (AGESA 1.2.0.3B)
RAM: 32GB Crucial Sport LT DDR4-3200
SDD: Samsung M.2 980 Pro
Fans:
2x NF-A8 PWM Lüfter (20%)

Before that I had an AMD Ryzen 5800X + AMD WX3200 GPU. I was able to use the system by running the CPU in ECO mode or by undervolting it.
However, the 5800X became too hot for me, so I decided to go for the long awaited and for me perfect CPU / APU for the Lone L5.

5800X Stock

CPU-Z Multi: 6300
CPU-Z Single: 637
Temp: 90° peak CPU-Z
Idle: 58°

5800X Undervolting (105/90/80 -30 AllCore)
CPU-Z Multi 6750
CPU-Z Single 666

Idle: 55°

Good stuff. Got any photos?

From what I've been through on 5900X, 5600G and 5700G, it seems that AMD is paying a bit more attention to either core binning or IHS contact on the APUs. On the 5900X (with a full curve optimizer profile) there's up to a 13C delta between some CCD2 adjacent cores during all-core. On 5600G and 5700G that margin is 5C or less even after +200MHz PBO.

Which BIOS are you on right now? F13 seems to be having major iGPU performance issues on both APUs I've used. Beta BIOSes seem to be okay.

What is the diameter of this hole? The diameter of 5.5x2.5mm is only 11mm. Need to use washer?

There are two standard holes for power jacks:

1. 8mm - compatible with 5.5/2.5mm barrel jack (used by mini-box.com, g-unique, others).
2. 13mm - compatible with 4pin PowerDIN, HDPLEX, GX12, SF12.

The power switch hole is 16mm, which some people have also used for a power jack, and instead using the 13mm for a power switch.

AGESA 1.2.0.3B (F13) Works fine

Could I trouble you to run a loop of Unigine Valley and see if the FPS counter starts dropping drastically at certain points in the benchmark? Fluctuations during any single scene should be smooth if no problems. I've gone back and forth multiple times between F13l and F13 and the release BIOS just won't get through Valley without sudden transient 10-15fps dips every few seconds.

The FPS have ranged between 14-31, but on average they mostly stayed around 15-17.
