Yeah, but the notable difference between 450 and 600 are not that big - there are already some comparisons and it does only affect results when overclocking the card. I'm pretty sure it'l work with the 450 as well, but i'll just give it a try (with or without the case, just need to wait when the 7950X3D is available) and then i can give you a brief update if its working or not :)

As for the cables i'm going for custom cables by cablemod (as with my previous itx builds), cause stock cables are often to long and ugly :-)

Reviews on the SilverStone Extreme Series EX850R are pretty rough. It's stiff non-sleeved cables seem are a major pain for SFF and it's noisy too - especially relative to the something like the SF750 for example. The EX850R's 12VHPWR cable is also capped at 450W so no real advantage power delivery wise vs a SF750 unless you're looking for more watts on the CPU side to run a 13900k or something combined with a high wattage (but sub 450W) GPU. The EX850R looks extremely similar to the Lian Li SP850 which also technically has 12VHPWR, but capped to 350-400W and is clearly labeled as not supporting Nvidia 40 series cards.

Right now I think ASUS ROG Loki SFX-L 850 (or 1000/1200W) are the only decent option for ATX 3.0 / solid high wattage PCIE5 support. I know they're SFX-L, but like I said I don't think there's anything decent in the SFX non-L size coming anytime soon. The Corsair SF850L and Corsair SF1000L will be SFX-L too and will also support 600W via 12VHPWR whenever they get released.

EDIT: Looking over the cybenetics reports the Asus ROG Loki SFX-L 750 actually performs a bit better noise and efficiency wise than either the 850 Loki unit or the upcoming Corsair 850/1000 SFX-L models so that seems like the one to go for (or possibly the Loki SFX-L 1000W, no cybenetics report on that one yet though).

Both Corsair SFX-L noise levels doesn't look good. Compare it to a Rog Loki 850w which has an A noise rating(Which is better than the SF750!)

I'm currently using a corsair SF750 to power my 4090 undervolted to .875 2550hz 100% PL. Power consumption is at 235w max for GPU. Only losing 5-8fps on Witcher 3 with everything maxed and rtx on.

I don't think you'd need a 1000w unless you plan to overclock, underclocking to .95 2750hz 100% PL +1500 Memory clock already performs better than stock settings with a max power consumption of 320w. I tried benchmarking at stock and reaching 400w and PSU is still holding, though I'm using a 5800x3d with -30 PBO2.

I'll probably upgrade to a 1000w PSU if I decide to get the 7 series x3d.

edit: stress testing was done in Haven benchmark.

Timespy gave me:
300w for 0.875 2550hz 100%PL
360w for .95 2750hz 100%PL +1500 memory

Just saw that CoolerMaster also has some nice SFX ones with 1100 and 1300 watts (Cooler Master V 1300 SFX Platinum 1300W) - wonder if they are any good, never hat a coolermaster psu before. also can't find any reviews for them. has anyone some info about those?

Their V-SFX lineup both in 750W and 850W are well reviewed. The V1 version had a fan issue (100% RPM most of the time), but the V2 fixed this. I am eyeing on the 850W version myself.

The higher wattage ones (CoolerMaster V SFX Platinum 1100 and 1300) both are SFX 12V Ver 3.42 and support 600W 12VHPWR - see: Product Sheet - V 1100 SFX Platinum.pdf (egnyte.com)

Just found a retailer who has them on stock and ordered the 1300. If its running nice and quiet i'll return the SilverStone 850R. Only difference i see is, that the CoolerMaster are "not quite" SFX form factor, as the connectors for the modular cables are not flat in the case as on other PSUs - so it may be a tiny bit higher when connecting cables than other SFX PSUs. Mine should arrive Monday or Tuesday, then i can take a closer look at it.

Btw: Just applied the AlphaCool Cooler to my 4090, damn is this thing tiny compared to original size... - can't wait to start building :-)

EDIT:
For those of you who are already buying parts - be aware when choosing your motherboard/GPU Combo... I just did a test-fit and have to rethink my build as the GPU does not fit due to the massive cooler/M.2 Mount pre-installed on the motherboard 😥:

As far as I know, the counterpart of ATX12V 3.0 is SFX12V 4.0, so those PSUs may be technically outdated. See also this revision history.
This. AFAIK the Silverstone Extreme 850R Platinum is the only SFX12V 4.0 PSU you can buy from US retailers right now (all Loki units are grey market imports sold by 3rd party "marketplace" sellers w/o warranty).

Really hoping Loki will show up at US retailers soon. A Seasonic Vertex SGX unit would be preferrable, but zero idea when that will drop - the current gen Focus SGX isn't a particularly competitive unit, but based on early reviews of the Vertex GX ATX 3.0 units, a Vertex SGX-750 SFX12V 4.0 is likely to be best in class this gen.

I dont get it, whats better on the Silverstone than the coolermaster? (Besides the fact that the silverstone SFX4 only supports 450W on the 12VHPWR whereas the coolermaster SFX3.4 supports 600W 12VHPWR)?

Btw: every tech you buy is outdated when you buy it, cause theres always something newer in development :)

Do a search for ATX 3.0 improvements if you want to understand the benefits of the new standard.

Generally the CM / EX850R units being discussed here aren't directly comparable enough to be cross shopped. Different form factors, different ATX standards, different wattages, different GPU support (450W vs 600w) etc..

Can you move it over one slot and use a riser?

Well, not compared with the new V1100 and V1300.
V1300 results haven't been published yet, but the v1100 is a little louder than the 850r extreme sfx up until ~700W, but yeah not by much. There is also a big price difference though.
For the vast majority of people SF750 is still the king, it can run a 4090 + 13900k just fine, and it is signficantly cheaper than both the CM v1100 and the extreme sfx 850r.
