I had a job interview yesterday! I then went home, took a nap, and helped my friend plan our vacation.

Come to Chengdu! Lots of game companies here and if you are single.....lots of single girls here too!

Married and 2 lovely daughters. I'll update my resume soon enough but I've been buried into the bank industry for the last 10 years. Won't be easy to get out of there, but I am tenacious and don't give up easily.

I'll be hospitalised for several weeks starting mid-july, with no internet access ... So I expect to see the notification counter to explode XD

Development (C, C++, opengl and in-house engine).

I do have a degree in industrial computing (C, C++, assembly, real-time) and a degree in digital imagery programming (rendering algorithm, real-time 2D and 3D engine programming, image processing programming).

Then I went to a 3D art school for 2 years because I wanted to know how the programs were used and what a digital artist need. I think it is important to have a wide understanding of both side to achieve the best possible result. Learnt drawing, modeling, storyboarding, writing and animation there.

Sadly that was 10 years ago, and the graphic pipeline changed completely. I am a fast learner though and I do love to learn. That might sound pretentious, but I often say to myself that: "A day without learning anything is a wasted day".

I can understand that motto. Today I learned how to zero and punch-hole a VMDK file while most of my day was procrastinating... Along with the dozens of other small stuff I gained experience in. I love edging the boundaries of my knowledge every day, it keeps the job interesting.

The is apart of my outlook on life. "Keep Moving Forward" and "P.U.S.H.: Push Until Something Happens" are the others.

I'd come over to Chengdu if I had the knowledge and skill.

What I did yesterday:
Finish arranging accommodations for the vacation my friend and I are planning, researched trackballs and ergonomics, and celebrated Canada Day with family and friends

Indeed, even though I try to stay on top of things every day, I still feel I'm in a marathon trying to keep up with evolution. But since my job requires me to go wide instead of deep knowledge-wise, I can't focus on one thing too long and need to keep moving. But indeed, staying still is moving backward, in so many technical jobs.

You dont need knowledge in China to get a job and succeed, just a willingness to learn and motivation to try new things. Also a white face helps alot. (truth has to be said!)

It is either move forward or move backward. Seen too many engineers that stopped learning once they graduated. That's a real pity.

Im starting to get why my company tries to force learning on people. If you arent learning new things they dont have much use for you. Game engines change so much if you cant learn a new one youll be useless in a few years.

What if I wore a mask? :p Got to keep learning on top of what you learned before.

Mask may not help. Just being able to speak fluently in english helps alot. Most people here assume foreigners are well educated so its easier to get a job against tougher competition. However, I think africans and indians can find themselves with less of an advantage vs europeans because the chinese may have different assumptions. In any case, regardless of your origin, china is a fun and exciting place to live.

Hmmm. Which companies should I apply to if I saved up enough for airfare and lodging?

That is beautiful and looks like a blast to traverse. May your kids have a healthy appreciation for environment as they get older.

Yesterday:
Wished my friend (the one planning the vacation) a happy birthday, worked on my ThinkPad, and started planning out my social media.

Today:
1. Reorganized my desk:

2. Did some light repair work on my ThinkPad

3. Currently doing typing exercises on another keyboard. The oddly placed Enter key kills it for me though.

4. Sent off thank you notes to the interviewers that interviewed me.

Depends on what you want to do and what your experience is. The other thing to keep in mind is if you want to start off in a new field, you can do it but you may need to accept a job as an intern. That's what I did here for a year. Many companies will hire you full time and help you get a working visa if they like your work.

Before I go too off-topic, you can shoot me a PM if you have some specific questions and are interested in doing a job in China.

Today I put in some car-care time on my MR-2, mainly buffing the headlight lenses. These fade over time and turn yellowish. I could spend hundreds of dollars on new ones, but the stuborn fool that I am I'd rather waste that amount in a concentric buffer and polishing stuff. It's not my first time I've done this (third time, about every two years) and make them sparkly shiny clear instead of dull yellowey.

When I was done. I have no before pictures, I thought I did... But just image it being more yellowey and faded :p

Oh and I made some coffee cold-brew concentrate last night, plopped some vanila ice cream and milk in there: yummy !

I have seen it happen with my dad's Matrix. Annoying really. What method did you use to cold-brew the coffee?

I have a pot with a stainless steel filter. Used 60g of freshly roasted coffee beans, 200ml of water, ~24h in the fridge: boom, concentrated cold brew. Vanilla ice cream, some milk, ice cube: boom, coffee flavoured nirvana on a hot day.

Vanilla ice cream!?
Why don't you just go to Starbucks? The great thing about cold brew is how much easier it is to drink without all the extra gumpf

Because the nearest Starbucks is about 30 km, they ask insane prices, this was also for more people than just me and I already had a good home-made triple espresso (without gumpf ;)) that morning.

Today I put in some car-care time on my MR-2, mainly buffing the headlight lenses.
And after getting out of the shower, this happened:
