All of your images are broken.

Today, I celebrated Father's Day with many fathers, and worked a bit on an idea I had for a case.

Very nice. How are they faring in your system now?

I failed my driving test (nerves). I am also working on my case idea and something for Steam on Linux and SteamOS.

Today I went to the movies to see Independence Day: Resurgence. But not in just any theater, one with Dolby Cinema, namely 'Vue' in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. There are only 3 of them in Europe.

Leather upholstered seating, extremely clear and perfectly positioned audio with floor-shacking low-frequencies, amazing visuals with deep blacks and bright whites, indirect lighting when the movie isn't running, no break, friendly staff and so much more. The best cinema experience ever. The film was just a popcorn-muncher but who cares lolz.

Technically happened yesterday but I drew more lines on vinyl tape.

Fewer consequences for drawing them incorrectly this time, but the manufacturer supplied all the measurements down to the 0.1 mm, which meant more time on my knees with a laser rangefinder and friggin' calipers.

Fun fact: metal grating will turn your knees into jelly, so bring pads. I know I will because there are 12 more templates to do...

I didn't know that was in Eindhoven. Have you seen IMAX 3D before? If so, how do the 2 compare to each other. I regularly go to Eindhoven Pathé with my dad so perhaps I'll suggest we try this at Vue next time we go.

I setup an image management and caching servers at work... so that was fun lol. Also drew up some plans for some circuitry/connectors and played around with a Pi 3 cluster for a video wall.

And for non tech news: I finally picked up a new bike to work on, turning an old 80' goldwing 1100 into a cafe racer for the track.

Nope, have not been able to compare, I will try the IMAX in the future when I can.

Could you possibly mechanically print the lines onto the tape using a (I assume) large format plotter? It would take some of the "tired jittery hand" factor out of the equation, and hopefully get you off the metal grating.

Don't know of many mechanical plotters that are adjustable in footprint and certified for use in Class 1000 atmosphere. Also despite our professional bluster, the department has entered a new field and due to unrealistic aggressive deadlines, it's MacGyver hour in the tool cabinet.

Though there are actually 1:1 transparent drawings that some vendors will supply a similar purpose, leaving only the reference points for alignment to be drawn. They work great for verification but get in the way when you have to start drilling holes into the floor beneath.

If the lines on the vinyl tape are potentially that expensive, your "department" might want to better manage the risk that the employees accidentally (or "accidentally") f*ck shit up. Unless they manage that risk by accidentally (or "accidentally") killing those who f*ck up.

Your job sounds exciting. Too damned exciting for me.

Currently working on resumes for multiple jobs. There is more than one answer to every question I have about them.

Heh. Well, it's not like I'm doing both the work and the QA. We wouldn't have lasted this long with those sorts of practices.

At times I imagine it to be much like the Soviet space program (with less fire and sans death). Solutions to complex problems pulled out of a hat on a shoestring budget so that our superiors can report to their superiors that yes, the arbitrary metrics set by a faceless committee in a far away place are doing exactly what they should be doing.

Though at the end of the year, the sense of pride from seeing what was created and its effect on the world keeps me from leaving. Well, that and a good chance for promotion.
