F*^#ing finally. I'm sure the quality is poop, but it's nice to finally see this done.

Looks interesting and comes complete with a free crack and stand offs for that 'engineering working sample' look. Delta Electronics have done massive contracts in the past to the likes of Dell HP etc. I've supplied a good few thousand TFX units to replace their units in HP Pavilion s5000 systems over the past number of years. So Delta are very good at making PSU's hit a certain price point and have a certain short life cycle (but usually long enough to cover a brand's warranty period ;).

Purely from curiosity, it would be intersting to source one and do a few little test. We have 3 basic adjustable loads for up to 1100W so I could perhaps see if it can really deliver 500W. Wonder what efficiency it is? It could well be Platinum as some time ago, 10/23/2012 to be precise, they did get a Flex ATX certified by plugload, which is supposed to be DPS-500AB-5. Could be that this is some old stock lying around that they are punting off from a failed contract or something like that. Either way, would be interesting to have look.

Might even be good circuit and components shared with similiar 1U units produced for HP Proliant servers.

Interestingly enough that is a Platinum PSU supposedly, which is being made modular. It does of course kill any CE compliance. Interestingly, however, this chap is producing a version with aluminium shield on it.

So anyone have any preferences as to which one i pull in to test?

The standoffs are certainly an interesting solution to exhaust airflow. Depending on how much slack there is in the wiring between the PSU proper and the add-on modualr board, it might even be preferable to deteach the modular plug board entirely and move it aside for ease of connecting, and leave the entire end of the PSU open for ventilation. Certainly not CE compliant, but that standoff gap is already non-compliant so it's no real loss unless you forget to insulate the backside of the board and short it out on the chassis.

Good point on the airflow side of things, will have to see what other venting on the case there is.

Seasonic SSP-300SUG is sort of similar in so much that it has a connector at the rear rather than loom exiting a hole.
This does have PCB exposed at the rear but the connector is perpendular to the PCB so connects vertically. On this PSU there are a some vents on either side of the rear connector as well as at the top rear of the PSU case, plus an open gap of 4-5mm both above and below the PCB at the rear.

As you can see the aluminium surround doesn't leave much in the way of ventilation and there's not venting on the top of the case.

So will probably just pull in a standard PSU to see what's what with it. Depending on shipping cost it could be a cost effective alternative to FSP500-50FSPT, but who knows what the fan speed controller will be like. It could just be set high for server application where its not such a priority. Shall try to get one in for test.

Dead Duck in the water, turns out they are used PSU's to start with then modified

Ahh well, tis a pity, but not our bag to get involved with a recycled PSU. Fair play to him, doing a nice bit of modifcation on them.
