Looks like a great build, but I would go with the i7-7700k and upgrade the ram to a 3200mhz kit. If it means dropping the 960 evo down to 500gb, or switching to the 850 evo 1TB m.2 drive. I thought an NVME SSD would make a bigger difference in gaming than it did, but it's always nice to know that you have the best parts. I find nowadays its easy to transfer a game back onto the SSD from an external hard drive, or just re-downloading games from steam to work well enough, but that's just me...

Let me know what you think

I've started a conversation with you to discuss the build :) As far as the case goes, I suppose everything here should fit eh? Really looking forward to it now!

Do not go with a 7700k. The C7 will not be able to cool it.

Without deliding the processor, I would argue the C7 cannot properly cool the 7600k processor either, both are 91w CPUs. I delided, and the C7 keeps my 7700k at 73 degrees at 4.4ghz (full turbo boost) with an ADIA64 stress test. So I would say it cools it just fine. It sucks that Intel cannot resolve this stupid Thermal INterface Material (TIM) problem. Delidding is easy, but if someone doesn't want to do it I suggest going with an AMD Ryzen quad core chip, or a locked Intel processor and save some $ on the motherboard...

As a reference, before the delid the C7 was keeping the 7700k at 88 degrees at 4.4ghz in ADIA64, and the processor was thermal throttling (99 degrees) using Prime95's blender test, which is an overboard stress test for gaming...

I plan on getting the Dan Case HSLP-48 cooler, which is currently being developed and should cool much better than the C7, I will overclock then.

edit: full turbo boost is 4.5ghz on the 7700k, i will have to go back and see if it was running at 4.4 or 4.5 during my tests...

Are there any pictures of the new Revision 3.0 prototype and Revision 4.0 prototype yet?
Am thinking of buying a second larger one as my main computer if the first turns out OK.
Cheers,
John

Planning to build a new PC soon for VR. This will be my first Mini-ITX build in over a decade (back then, I built robots containing the only Mini-ITX boards that existed: VIA mobos w/ C3/C7 CPUs).

Thinking about either v2.1 with air cooling or v3.0 with an AIO. My planned part list is:

AMD Ryzen 7 1700X
ASRock X370 Gaming-ITX/ac
2 x 16GB DDR4-3200 RAM (TBD)
1TB M.2 NVMe SSD (possibly Samsung 960 EVO OEM)
Corsair SF 450 or 600 SFX
GeForce GTX 1080 or 1080 Ti
[v2.1:] Cryorig C7
or
[v3.0:] Corsair Hydro H100i V2 + Noctua NF-A12x15

I'd prefer to stick with v2.1 and air cooling (smaller case, simpler), but concerned about noise / temperature. Is there enough clearance on v2.1 to avoid the issues the C7 has in the DAN A4, and is there a better alternative to the C7? Would noise/temps be fine, or would an AIO and v3.0 be the right way to go?

Thanks!

Very similar to my build that I plan on placing in a 5.9L case:

AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (65w TDP)
Gigabyte GA-AB350N-Gaming WIFI
2 x 8GB G.Skill FlareX DDR4-3200 CL14 RAM
1TB Samsung 960 Evo
Silverstone 500W SFX-L PSU
Nvidia Founder's Edition GTX 1080TI
Noctua NH-L9a with Ryzen mouldings
Noctua RF-A8 For intake in the front

What problems does C7 have in the DAN case?

Yep. I'll be replacing an essentially silent laptop (XPS 15) with this, so just trying to see if this setup can be silent at idle / not need to be underclocked for comfort (as seems to be a problem with running something like an i7 7700K (91W TDP) in a DAN A4 - e.g. see https://pcpartpicker.com/b/rZRJ7P).

Guess a 65W CPU would help with that -- or keeping the 95W and opting for an AIO with v3.0 case. Also wondering about using a blower setup on GPU (like the 1080Ti FE has) vs. one with regular fans (blower dumps less heat back into case, but supposed to be louder?).

That blower fan is going to get loud, regular fans would be much quieter and cooler in this case. just buy the biggest card that can fit in this case if you want quiet

Update revision 3.0 and 4.0 to revision 3.1 and 4.1. It's still a prototype! The width of the cases is increased to 130mm. This is due to the fact that some radiators of liquid cooling systems are wider than 120mm. We wanted to make these large cases as small as possible, but alas, "life" made it a little wider. We hope this update did not scare you.:D
