MSI Announces New “SLIM” Series of GPUs That Are Still Quite Large for SFF

MSI has shown its SLIM series of graphics cards. The announced cards include models of the GeForce RTX 4070Ti, RTX 4070, and RTX 4060Ti GPUs, and come in both stock and overclocked form. Additionally, the triple fan coolers are available in either white or black.

All RTX 4070Ti models are 307 x 125 x 51 mm, and are rated for 285 watt TDP with a 16-pin connector.

All RTX 4070 are 307 x 125 x 46 mm, and are rated for 215 watt TDP with a 16-pin connector.

All RTX 4060Ti models are 307 x 125 x 46 mm, and are rated for 165 watt TDP with a single 8-pin connector.

From a small form factor perspective, it’s good to see a return to reduced width cards as it helps with compatibility of cases. However, these cards are still not just a simple 2-slot (42mm) width, and they are very long at 307mm. Basically put, many of the exact cases that could use this width of card will not be compatible with the length. Here is a short list of examples of popular cases that these cards are not officially compatible with:

Dan Case A4-SFX: Limited to 306mm

Louqe Ghost S1: Limited to 305mm

NZXT H210: Partial incompatibility. Limited to 270mm or less with standard sized 240mm AIO.

Sliger Cerberus: Partial incompatibility. Limited to 275mm or less with standard sized 240mm or 280mm AIO in front mount.

NCASE M1: Limited to 280mm with GPUs between 46mm and 60mm thick and 290mm with cards

Fractal Design Era: Limited to 295mm length, or 210/190mm with low mounted PSUs.

SilverStone Sugo 16: Limited to 275mm length.

SilverStone SG13: Limted to 270mm length.

SilverStone SG05: Limted to 241mm in length.

SilverStone FT03 Mini: Limited to 254mm length and 2-slot width.

Segotep Slath: Limited to 200mm length.

SFF Time P-ATX: Partial incompatibility: Limited to 245mm with 120mm AIO. 370mm with air cooling.

Some of the above cases might fit the cards with some de-shrouding and sheer luck, but officially they all have issues.

MSI is also set to unveil a RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 SLIM series cards as well, but did not list the specs for them.

I absolutley see no point in these products.

Slim would be 2slot max for a 4070TI (Like Inno3D offers) or 7800XT/7900GRE.
Sad.

*vine boom on each incompatible case in the list*

shame, now that nvidia has normalised fat cards and AIB partners are now calling this "slim(med)". i'd say katana or bust, but realistically only the 4060 would be worth their while (another shame, remember the 1070 katana?)

What makes this a joke is that there are 4070ti's with 42mm thickness and they are just called 4070ti's. 4070 again in dual slot form but at 250mm length.
Yet MSI decides to label 46mm and even 51mm thick cards of the same class "SLIM". Oh, and they are also 307mm long, which is a lot.
These are bigger than most 2080ti's in both legth and thickness. Yet they are SLIM - according to MSI.

The Inno3d at 297mm fits in the Ghost S1, even if the 46mm is actually too wide the 307mm is too long. These are a better alternative to most 40 series for other cases but won't fit in either the Ghost or the Dan A4-SFX.

Even though the 46mm is technically too wide and the 307mm is too long, the Inno3d, at 297mm, fits within the Ghost S1. Although they won't fit in the Ghost or the Dan A4-SFX, these are a better option than most 40 series for other cases. space bar clicker

What a joke, their "slim" 4070 is larger than the FE and their own Ventus 2x.
