MSI’s ITX 1660 Ti and 1660 Cards Appear

With the impeding retail launch of the NVIDIA 1660 series cards (ugh, naming schemes), we were expecting to see product pages appear. Lo and behold, MSI’s ITX cards in the family have appeared! The links to these cards were sent through our tip line – thanks! Keeping the same shroud as the previous generation Aero cards, not much has changed on the outside. It’s the inside where things have iterated. Both cards feature a 192 bit memory bus, are rated at 120W, and have a single layer of rear ports, with DisplayPort x 1 (v1.4), HDMI 2.0b, and DL-DVI-D. HDCP support …

We do appreciate …

Specifically, the Core i9-8950HK, a 2.9GHz, 45w rated part. Based on the Coffee Lake silicon (on 14nm), the chip features 6 cores, 12 …

Once again, our team of Drew and Tim (3lfk1ng and ||| respectively on the forum) knocked it out of the park and spread the word of SFF to the tech world at CES. Here’s a roundup of the “extras” from today’s adventures.   The beautiful Open Bench Table Mini was present, and yes, I want one. Bad! Suitably sized, of course. This one seems.. familiar! The only AM4 Mini-ITX motherboard that we haven’t tested yet – come on ASUS!   MSI once again showed off their Trident and Vortex SFF prebuilts – although word is they will be discontinuing most …

MSI Introduces the X299M-A Pro

MSI has decided to target the “mid” level HEDT buyers with a new board, the X299M-A Pro. Limited to the Kaby Lake-X processors, namely the i7-7740X and i5-7640X, this motherboard sits in a really weird spot in the market. Thanks to Intel’s… unique… product lineup, this X299 based board is compatible with only two CPU SKUs. This LGA2066 board is in the Micro-ATX form factor, and features three physical PCIe x16 slots. However, Kaby Lake-X’s PCIe lane limitation means that the X299M-A Pro is limited to a total of 16 lanes across all three slots. These could be in x16/ x0/ x0, …

GT1030s Appear from MSI and Gigabyte

NVIDIA’s first ‘new’ sub **50 cards in an age (since the GT210/610, etc were just rebrands!) have started to appear, with both MSI and Gigabyte showing off some interesting variants of the GPU intended to compete with AMD’s RX-550 line. All are based on NVIDIA’s Pascal GP108-300 core, produced on a 16nm FinFET process. Each card has 384 CUDA cores, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs. Also identical across the cards is the RAM- 2GBs of DDR5 1750MHz (7000MHz effective), with 56GB/s bandwidth. GPU clock speeds have yet to be announced, But I expect the active cooled variants to be clocked …

MSI Unveils the B350M Mortar Arctic

As the Ryzen launch rolls on, we are finally starting to see some real options – in other words, non-ATX motherboards! MSI has unveiled their B350M Mortar Arctic board, a unit we previewed around CES in January. This board, in it’s all-white styling, really stood out to us – it’s a very bold statement in a sea of darker units.  Featuring the slightly gimped (versus the X370 platform) chipset, this unit is high in the midrange, in effect. The rear IO features a PS/2 port, two USB 2.0 ports, three USB 3.0 ports, a single USB Type C port, DVI, HDMI, …

Introducing the MSI Radeon RX 460 2GT LP

MSI has added the new MSI Radeon RX 460 2GT LP to their website. Big thanks to community member robbee for the discovery! This card joins the low profile ranks of the Galax 1050 LP, Zotac 1050/ti, and MSI’s own 1050 LP that we have previously showcased. However, unlike those cards, this GPU uses a single slot at the back with a dual slot cooler which should open up a few doors to some users. The MSI Radeon RX 460 low profile graphics cards will be offered in both a 2GB and a 4GB variant. While the specifications, as well as the design, aren’t bringing anything new to the table, …

MSI Nightblade and Trident – CES 2017
