AMD has announced their new line of Ryzen 8000G series APUs. Featuring up to eight cores and sixteen threads, the APUs will be available for both OEMs and DIY builders starting January 31, 2024. The highest-end model, Ryzen 7 8700G, lists for $329 and will feature Radeon 780M graphics built-in to it. Additionally, AMD has seen fit to include their “NPU” (Neural Processing Unit) to accelerate AI based processing.

From a SFF perspective this is a welcome addition. For many casual and less intensive games, the Radeon 780M will provide very good performance at 1080P resolution. This offers some nice opportunities for the sub-4L SFF builds, potentially even some sub-2L builds. Of course, these CPUs will be making it into pre-builts as well such as those from MinisForum.
