From what we found, the CR1 visa is way faster than a K1 visa. But it also depends on the situation though. They wanted to make sure we had known each other for at least 6 months, ie I needed to be living in China for more than 6 months (i lived there for 4.5 years, of which we were living in the same house for 3 years) so it was relatively painless and easy for us to prove the relationship is "real."

Good luck on your visa process!

Now I need to figure out a job >.<

Best of luck!

Got a bit further with assessing Windows 10 deployments. Still working with my boss on getting problem software running on the current version. So far, our efforts are bearing fruit. The only issue is that we depend on VMWare ThinApp and it tends to break on every major (read Creators) update. Picked up my new toy and have it charging before I start using it.

Edit: Liking it so far. Now to wait for the B450-I Gaming board from ASUS as well as Black Friday.

@IntoxicatedPuma Thanks for the information :) I hadn't heard of the CR1 visa before

I think the K1 works best in our situation, since I wasn't a resident of her country and we are mostly depending on my job for financial support with all the visa stuff and starting life over here. The amount of waiting definitely hurts though, based on the estimates it'll be just about 2019 when we get an interview date.

Good luck job hunting!

yeah the prospect of building a car from the chassis up sounds pretty interesting to me. I used to have dreams of just hacking and packing a Bugatti Veyron engine onto the back of a truck, LOL ,_,
Yeah, I admit, the idea holds some appeal to me as well, but the reason I bring it up is because the car I'd love to have i a Lancia Stratos, of which only a few were manufactured, but which has a few different kit car versions.

This ain't no dirty joke but today my rear was poked into. Not a pleasant experience. Guys, I am talking about a rectal exam.

I think most (if not all) are guys in this forum, I will say a few more brotherly words. When you are 40+ (how many here belong to this group, would you mind raising your hand please?), make sure your annual physical checkup includes a PSA test (should be part of the blood test). It is about that organ unique in our male body, ie the prostate. If the PSA index is above 4 or the annual growth is larger than 0.75, consult your doctor. And be prepared for a rectal exam. No sane man enjoy this but it is necessary.

@tinyitx been there, done that. Not over 40, but due to some health issues, I've had the displeasure of such an exam too. No shame in it at all, beats dying a horrible slow death of the cancer.

Let me reiterate to everyone else: There's no shame in health. If you find a lump that's never been there, a sore that won't heal, a sore spot that won't settle, or anything that doesn't seem right, no matter the location, get it checked by a doctor. It could be the difference between a minor operation (i.e. a lump removed, like I had done two years ago), or permanent disability/ death.

We all hear horror health stories about issues that went unchecked for years because of stubbornness or desire to "save face" - don't be another statistic.

I learnt this lesson the hard way when I stubbornly ignored heart palpitations some years back. "It'll be fine" I said. I ended up watching myself flatline in an ambulance while being driven to hospital.

It's kind of a shame some doctors aren't so good about that.
A few years back, I was suffering from horrible knee pain, and most days couldn't fully extend my knees. Doc took a look, poked me a few times and said I was fine. I had to seek out a specialist on my own because he didn't even refer me to one. It ended up with me going to physical therapy for a ligament issue (or is that a tendon?)

As for the probing, I have 10 more years to hope something less invasive becomes cheap and mainstream. I already don't like being touched even if it is necessary.

Agreed with confusis. One of the best things you can do is simply go in for your (typically annual) preventative exams. They may be a hassle, and if you're younger you may not feel as if they have a point, but if nothing else they establish a baseline against which you can compare things later, helping you to recognize trends before they become problems.

When I got married my wife insisted that I start visiting the doctor annually (after not going in regularly for 10+ years), and I now wish that I had done so much sooner. The initial blood work indicated that some of my numbers were elevated to the point of concern, but they weren't able to tell me which way the numbers were headed since they had never established a baseline measurement. I had dropped a significant amount of weight in the years prior to the test, but they had no way to know whether that weight loss was proving effective at curbing the problem or if something more drastic would be necessary. It wasn't until a year later when I got a clean bill of health that I was finally able to put my mind at ease.

Seriously, go to the doctor.

A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing,

Just got back from 3 hours early morning work. Looking forward to be home soon and hit the bed for a bit until my daughter wakes up then we're off for a swim.

Just now, I discovered "ignore" button on people's profile page.
Hmmm... interesting...

I do not know how many of you recognize the name of Andy Grove. He was the CEO and Chairman of Intel for some years. About 20 years ago, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. At that time, the net speed was not that fast (IIRC, 1.5Mbps was supposed to be 'high speed'!) and so he spent hundreds of hours to search for and read all available information about diagnosis, ways of treatment and prognosis...etc Then, as a well informed patient, he entered into and won the battle. I still remember reading a Fortune cover story about his ordeal. (Grove passed away a couple years ago, not related to his prostate cancer.)

When I want to say is, we are now much blessed by the huge amount of info available in the net (assuming you can distinquish between the fake/junk and the real/useful info). Take my case as an example. I typed 'PSA index' in a search engine and read enough info so that I was prepared before seeing my doctor. At least, I was fully mentally prepared for a rectal exam.-

Got into a new freelance web project where I really have to set up Linux subsystem for Windows. Installed it and started getting into using tmux so I can balance my work in multiple panes. I feel like a l33t haxor now.

Three words: (n)vim vs. (spac)emacs

Today was hectic at work especially with one computer having its account locked. Productive though. Picked up my 'damaged' Dynatron T318. The heatsink looks mint aside from couple slanted fins. Still planning my Full Circle build. Motherboard choices are rough. Want dual M.2 on AM4 (B450)? Be prepared to PAY more than the equivalent LGA1151 (B360). Yeesh.

For example with the X470 vs Z370 boards:

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product...i-itx-lga1151-motherboard-strix-z370-i-gaming

And the B450 board isn't even available yet.
