It's already 2017 for some of our members, so what are your resolutions for the new year?

I have quite a few:
  • Ship Cerberus
  • Learn enough Japanese to survive there
  • Learn basic electronics
  • Lose weight
  • Improve my photography

Doing this solo and with my high demanding nature this is going to be quite the project.

So you're going to try to do as much of the construction yourself as possible? Framing, drywall, flooring, etc?

It'll depend on what plan I end up with but I'll also have to find a balance between my full-time job and saving money by doing stuff myself. If possible I'd do almost everything myself but at the moment that's not realistic. I'm planning my design to make it easier and cheaper to construct.

-Grow SFFn to the point where I can work fulltime for the company
-lose weight
-get better at photography
-help my children learn to cope with the issues that life has dealt them
-pay off all my debt apart from my car (that one's a bit too big a bill to get done)

5K, maybe? (rimshot) Though I think 4K would have indistinguishable pixels at my typical viewing distance, will have to check that – if so certainly preferable as it's much easier to drive, can do it with single DP1.2 connection.

  • stop screwing around with prototypes of everything and actually get at least a couple of the software side projects into shipping (well, by "shipping" I mean "usable by me on a day-to-day basis") state
  • lose weight (managed to do a decent job of this for about six months a couple years back but fell off the wagon and gained it back – restarted at beginning of December and going well so far)
  • less impulse buying, more saving

Currently reading, "Japanese Phrasebook & Dictionary", by lonely planet. Pretty good thus far.

@confusis
I can help with your helping your kids cope if you'd like. I am a single child of divorced parents myself.
