I purchase two Scythe SY1212SL12H-P 120mm slim fan and they work great and quite! They are 2000 rpm and have pwm control as well.
hmmm...
I guess you got the SY1212SL12H model instead of the SY1212SL12H-P! :D

The -P model comes with 4pin and pwm XD
So it's good to know there is a PWM version...
@1461748123 Ahhh I see, that is really disappointing. I need to find the PWM version. I don't see any on Amazon or Newegg...

RAGGEEEEE!
But I can't find this fan anywhere. I read a forum post from [HardOCP] in 2013 that you could buy them by emailing scythe directly, as they are the fan that comes with the "Big Shuriken" but aren't normally sold separately.

Alternatively I found a page for this fan here on Aliexpress, but God knows I don't trust that site enough to buy it from there. :/

Haha, I got it from taobao.com! This is when my guide comes in handy! XD

Decided to stop being patient and begun to buy my parts! Everything should be on its way aside from my mobo (z270i), ram (still not sure which kit to get) and GPU (also still deciding). Though I've got a couple really dumb questions for those more experienced than me.
1. Is the included stick of NT-H1 enough for me to paste my CPU and GPU? or should I buy another one just in case.
2. Is there such thing as a mini right angle PWM adapter or ultra short extension cable so I can easily unattach my fan from my potential 1070 (with removing the heatsink)?

EDIT: typo

The included NT-H1 is more than enough for CPU and GPU :D
Not sure what you meant about a 'right' adapter, but I guess something like this?

Nice to know there's enough paste :D Oops mean't right angle. That way you'd be angle to unplug the fan without remove the heatsink. I did see the extension kit while browsing though it seems a bit long at 30cm. I guess leaving it bundled and shoving it in a corner is always an option XD

Update: So Silverstone offers a mini PWM Y-splitter cable (CPF01) which is about 100mm with PWM on one end and 3 pin on the other. It's definitely a messier (more cables) and pricey bandaid solution though it should make it easier to remove the GPU fan.

I am blowing through my PAID orders, so if you have PAID for your MINI, I hope to have it shipped this week or the next. So I wouldn't worry about your parts going obsolete.

Keep in mind there are ALOT of people on the waiting list or who haven't paid, and I am not talking about them yet, but all in good (hopefully fast) time!

Thanks for the update Josh, if I really like this first S4 mini, how soon would I be able to order another (with a regular vandal switch and another riser) if I was dying to make a second SFF build with it?

I so envy you, you're living the dream. I wish i had all the tools, working space, and artistic talent you do to make something like this work.

I can't wait till i get to be one of those paying customers.

I was going back through your youtube channel and i noticed you did a multi-part video about a custom computer mod about once a year, i do hope we get to see another one of those productions this year. You always come up with the most amazing designs.

Just to clarify, it is the gpu fan you want to unattach?
If that is the case you might need a mini connector like this:
https://www.moddiy.com/products/4%2dPin-Mini-GPU-Connector-Extension-Cable-(10cm).html
Yep! That seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. I had no idea that there was a difference between the fan connector on the GPU and a regular fan header. The only downside is shipping seems a bit too slow for me. However, it did give me the search terms needed to find what I'm looking for.

The Gelid CA-PWM-02 seems to accomplish the same task in a shorter length (2.76") and comes sleeved. Price is definitely higher at $8 though it qualifies for prime shipping. I'm slightly worried that it won't be able to bend enough get out from beneath the heat sink though I reckon removing some heat shrink might help.

Most graphics cards aren't going to care if you don't have a fan connected to the fan header on the graphics card itself. Remember, people watercool these cards, and they don't have fans plugged into that fan header. You can run the fan off a motherboard fan header and use software to control the RPM based on the temps on the graphics card.

I'm now the proud owner of S4 #107

It and the ribbon cable arrived today and I couldn't be happier with them! Now I'm just waiting on a couple of parts to arrive and for the HDPLEX 160 DC-ATX direct plug to release and I'll be ready to transplant parts from the ML-08.

Direct comparison to the ML-08:thumb:

Many thanks to Josh for his prompt shipping and communication, and going above and beyond for his customers. Additionally, I was very pleased with the quality of the packaging. I'll definitely buy another one in the future, and would not hesitate to recommend someone to Josh/NFC.

When you mention software, do you mean something like speedfan or rather something bios level? I've never considered using software as I figured it would be easier/safer to just let the GPU handle cooling itself.

It should be more or less the same. But if you decide to go the route of plugging the fan into your graphics card, be sure to double check first to see if it has a 4-pin connector. When I was browsing around for mine I saw some other configurations (like 5-pin) depending on the manufacturer of the card. Didn't research it deeply though since mine was a 4-pin.

Based off the reviews and pictures I've seen, the Zotac 1070 mini does seem to have a 4 pin connector. Worse comes worse, I plug the fan into a chassis header and set a fan curve using software or bios.

So just to get an idea, who else here is planning on buying and fitting a ZOTAC 1070 mini into their S4? What mods are required to fit it into an S4 mini (has anyone done that successfully yet?)

And who is waiting for the ZOTAC 1080 mini to release to try that? (I'm waiting for the 1080mini) The mods required for that aren't known FOR SURE 100% yet, but we might have to trim a bit off of the metal shroud, and the aluminum fins on the heatsink.

Dude that is awesome, Thank you for the comparison pics! I always wanted to see the S4 next to an ML-08! :D It's crazy how much smaller the S4 mini is! It blows me away that the only real difference between what things you can fit in the two is the ML-08 fits an full GPU, and SFX PSU, and 1 3.5in HDD (in addition to two 2.5inch SSDs), with built-in room for a slim disc drive. Where the S4 can fit a slim/slot-loading drive with some planning and cutting/mounting, and the only thing it can't fit is a 3.5in drive, a full-size GPU and an SFX PSU.

I BOW TO OUR HDPLEX, ZOTAC mini, and ASUS (dual M.2) saviors! :D

I was planning on getting the 1080 mini, but I've realized finances will prevent that, so I'm just gonna go the normie route of the 1060.
Debating between zotac and EVGA SC, EVGA would fit without mods which would be good if/when I went to sell it, but the zotac might run cooler.

dang that sucks you can't get the 1080 now, maybe settle for the 1070? ;) It's okay if it's financial roadblocks I totally understand that situation, maybe in the future there'll be a 1080ti mini and you can save & jump on that?

Mostly I shouldn't be spending the money, technically I have it, but really I mostly play overwatch, the game I play occasionally that's the hardest on the GPU is Star Citizen, but that's limited by netcode for now.

I reckon I can get away with spending little to nothing if I sell my 980 and get a 1060. :)
Hopefully I can get a similar outcome from selling my 3570K/P8Z77I/RAM to finance the Z270i + 6700T + RAM
