When I previously bought, GTX 1060 my first SFF GPU, the ITX cards where already out. Unfortunately haven't really paid attention to releases since then.
The 3070 is set to release in October I'm guessing we'll probably be waiting untill at least early 2021 for smaller cards.

Is there usually a long wait time for ITX cards to be released?

depend on where you live. I'm not sure if we will get like, 3070 in itx for a while, as these card will be very hot, but that's no impossible.
but as far as I remember, there were always at least one smaller card in the latest launch lineup.

But I'm not sure what to expect, really. these cards have a very different power consumption than the previous generation

Should have added this, but Owliwar makes a good point as well. The thermal requirements for these cards are much higher than previous gens and that could cause some hold ups.

If the 3070 is, as said by Nvidia, really matching or even better than 2080Ti, then a 3060 is still an excellent card (and perhaps a performance-to-cost ratio winner too).

I was watching JayzTwoCents yesterday and he was speculating on the 3060. He thinks it will be $350 - $400 and have the performance of the 2070 Super, maybe 2080. Now if that is true it would be an excellent value.

I would risk saying that the possible 3060 card could be pushed by an AIB to make it match a 2080 S. The only limiting factor I could see is the amount of memory for a 3060, but perhaps its new architecture will make up for that.

It seems nVIDIA is positioning the 3080 for 4K gaming and the 3090 for 8K (60fps) and the 3070 for 2k.
If so, the 3060 should be treated as a basic mainline gamer's card for 1080p. As such, maybe the fewer amount of memory is not so impactful (at 1080).

does it make sense to keep the 3060 only for 1080p? i mean, if its for 1080p but high refresh rate (120hz to 240hz), or 60fps on max with RTX then it could probably make sense and still game reasonably well at 1440p, maybe a bit lower on texture. but it still should have what, 8gigs? maybe 7 since they are going with odd numbers and its still better than 6gigs from the last generation

I really hope for a refresh on the low profile cards but the 1650 I have is already plenty for what I do (1080p mmo games). its probably going to take a year or so

I think some brand will end up also creating a 2 slot 3080, the demand will be there and they can do some profits if everyone else sticks to 3slots+

3070 actually looks very promising that there might be a short card being released in future.

As FE 3070 is just 242mm in length and there is no PCB at the tail part of FE design , which is just a flow throw cooler with fan. That means there is not problem to power this new GPU with a small PCB design, and the only puzzle for manufacturers is just how to cool it with a smaller cooler design.

Looks like the Zotac Twin Edge 3070 is ripe for modding by trimming down its cooler to fit into short cases. Maybe this leads to another S4 mini case mod situation down the road?

noway, that card sized 231.9mm x 141.3mm.

141.3mm in height means there is no way to build a brickless build, even shift the PCIe bracket closer to motherboard;
plus 231.9mm in length means you have to modify both the front panel and inner frame to fit the card in.

comparing to Zotac's design, FE 3070's size is actually much better for S4M mod, as it's just 112mm in height, which means the only mod needed for a brickless s4m build is just opening a window on front panel.

The DUAL series lineup will focus on the GA104-based RTX 3070 model first. According to EEC, ASUS has no plans for DUAL GA102 models right now. The company will add ‘Advanced’ SKU to RTX 3070 DUAL series and another three subvariants called EVO. The EVO series usually have a slightly different design (different cooling or display configuration). The company is also planning MINI ITX models called DUAL MINI.

Zotac 3070 is 240mm but looks like pcb is around 20. Certainly viable solution with waterblock :D

I'm with you here.. I'm still rocking 1660s for 1080p 60hz gaming, all good :)

I game at 2560x1080 @ 67 Hz (my 60 Hz monitor is overclocked) on a 1660 Ti.
All my games run absolutely fine @ 67 fps.
My next big purchase will be the HP Reverb G2 2160 x 2160 per eye (9.3 million pixels) @ 90 Hz
The reverb G2 supports half resolution (2k) mode. Until I get the reverb G2, I have no reason to buy a new graphics card.

I suspect the design features of this 3000 series (at least, 3090,3080 and 3070) might set a trend for the future.
-small size PCB (good news for SFF)
-high TDP (bad news)
-card's total length is extended beyond the PCB long enough to accommodate a fan at the opposite end of the IO
-bi directional exhaust: fan near the IO will pull air in and exhaust directly via the rear; another fan will do a pass-through and exhaust air via an opening in the back plate. Note: even the 3070 FE has this feature!
I think, many, if not most, AIB cards will adapt this bi-directional exhaust to a certain extent.
