That's an idea if he can figure out what layer to begin at. Trying to cut that carbon infused PETG though... be safe about it. Cutting carbon fiber is no joke.
On the bright side, the layers are large enough to be visible. Might not cleave easily however. I'd suggest a bandsaw or something.

A razor blade might work best. The goal would be to shear between the layers, where the carbon fibres have had little/no chance to meet each other (it's not like a woven CF composite). Even if the plastic binder has fused effectively, the layer separation lines along the outside work as guide lines for starting a cut.

The support material wasn't too bad to remove. A small file and X-Acto knife can clean it up. I did consider trying to mate 2 two printed pieces together, but the print failed in an area where matching the layers to a specific height would have been difficult. That brings me to a new issue.

I'm still printing, however, I dropped a new roll of filament on yesterday to make sure it didn't run out while I was out of town overnight. I had the previous roll in the dehydrator and the new roll wasn't in it as long. Well the difference is unfortunately obvious... There's no way I'm going to reprint to match due to the time limitations, and the perfectionist in me can't allow it to remain as is. I don't think I'll have any choice but to sand. Can't win for losing!

I could have handled it if it was one texture or the other, but not both on the same piece. So, if there's any doubt as to why moisture free filament is critical, here it is!
Yeah it really does improve things :) glad the supports came off alright!

I had the first roll in a day, the new roll was about 6 hours, but it was unopened prior to that. Live and learn I guess, haha. Alright is a relative term. It wasn't as easy as I'd like, but it wasn't fused like my first test prints. I hear that's pretty good for PETG.

So, removing supports is a pain. Not so much that they are hard to remove, as the fact there are so freaking many of them. This gonna take a while. As a result I'm looking at possibly getting a Palette+. Soluble supports would be awesome...

Thats awesome.. can't wait to see a bigger picture of the whole thing. I hate PETG supports with a passion though. Prickly finish when I separated it and cut myself on it, the material is so strong and sharp, believe this was because the supports were too close.

Oops. Try this. I've got decent support gaps, but it's a bit of a catch-22. Too far apart and you get droop. Too close and you get adhesion.

Here's something you guys haven't seen yet. This is the interior removable motherboard tray. I've not shown it earlier, because I literally just finished it. It will be printed in left and right halves and fastened to the rear of the case. I'm working on the front of the case now. There is an interior mount up front for the card connector and the LCD control board.

Loving it Craig! I really should get going on my mod..

Thanks! I should have started pringing sooner. Actually, I should have finished the design earlier. that would have been helpful. At this point I'm tracking behind where I'd like to be. I don't think I'm going to make it by Friday. So, instead of investing every waking hour into something I won't complete in time, I'm going to slow down a bit. Progress will continue of course, but I'm going to stop stressing.

Less stress is probably good, don't want to burn out on a project that's so awesome :)

Well, I've decided to push off further printing for a couple of weeks. I bought SLS nylon carriages and effector, a Titan Aero, and Trick Laser ball cup arms for the printer. While I've been fairly happy with the mag ball arms and current E3D V6 setup, I had a chance to upgrade and took it. I'll gain even more reliability and a touch more print quality.

I also bought a pair of USB AOC 16" IPS screens for mounting above my Asus PG348Q. I've used an older USB monitor mounted above my previous 27" screen for years, and it was a nice setup. I'd always have Discord open there, or even use it for the map overview when playing BF4. However, when that small screen is paired with the ultrawide, it looks positively crap. It's too small, and the screen quality leaves something to be desired. The new USB IPS screens should look much better. Not only in appearance and function, but the fact that they'll fit nicely side by side. WIth the loss of a portrait mounted 24" due to the ultrawide's width on my desk, I think they should compensate just fine.

Good news! My new printer parts arrived on Friday. SLS nylon is pretty cool. It's got a nice seamless satin finish, and is super light. Also, the Titan Aero and Trick Laser arms are awesome. Top notch build quality. As I mentioned before, I really was pretty happy with the results of my previous setup, but this should take it over the top. I didn't have a lot of time this weekend for assembly, but did manage to work on the changeover here and there. I got all the older parts off and actually took the time to reconfigure and clean up some of the wiring layout from initially putting the machine together.

I'm hoping to have the printer up and running in a couple of days, and work on this project can continue. I'll update with some pics either tonight or tomorrow.
