Project Orthrus V2 is officially now in the queue for production :)

I had a few small delays with regards to the acrylic side panels and I'm still going to need to find an alternative but the case will start manufacturing this upcoming week (12th December)

I will post more details up shortly.

Seconded, what a beautiful looking case! And it's always so nice getting the second iteration that fixes all the little unforeseen issues encountered with the first prototype.

I just noticed that the IO has a machined inset. That must have been an expensive prototype o_O

Indeed it is machined. There's a few chamfers on the back io too. About $2k again for the prototype. It was initially cheaper but then we started adding in all these beautifications :)

Just asking and be honest... How much money have you used at Protocase?

For Protocase that's not too bad considering the complexity of the case design.

They do great work but they are on the more expensive side though, the original Nova prototype I got from them was $2600 for 1 unit. Then we got 2x Cerberus prototypes from Sliger Designs (our current manufacturer) for $1900. They're also a FSP distributor BTW.

Are you planning on selling ever or is this just a fun self project?

If there is enough interest in such a case. mATX doesn't seem to be a very popular form factor though.
I've always had a taste for the unique :)

P.S. Happy New Year everyone. Its already 2017 in Australia :D

Yeah, maybe do a small run like Project MATX is what I think it is called. There were 25 units made.

It would really need to be much more than 25 units, at least if it's manufactured in the USA, Australia, Europe, etc. Project mATX is a relatively straightforward design from a manufacturing perspective.

Project Orthrus on the other hand involves machining, welding, multiple non-90° bends, two custom PCIe extenders, and a custom SLI cable. I'd hate to think what it'd cost with just a 25 unit run.

That is a good point.
