And the circular headlamp fits the old styling of BMW too.
Protruded light covers might go back to the late 60's. Certainly before E21 3-series.
The E21 is preceded by the 02-series.
So, double checking wiki and my guess is BMW 02-series.

The external styling is timeless. After 30+ years, it still looks fresh and elegant to me.
