Today they offered me another for $10 +Shipping ($20 total). I jumped on it 🤣

Haha me too, I tried to increase quantity but I guess it was strictly for 1 unit :D

Always good to have a spare. I think I'm going to try crimping u-shape terminals instead of using extensions now that I've got some more parts and actual crimpers handy.

Glutton for punishment. Got a modular 650w FSP SFX used for $92.
I sent it back and made an offer on 2 more of these FSP 500 for $12 each and 10+2 shipping. Total with tax was under $38. I can make my own 1,000w now (as long as draw on a single PSU doesn't peak over 500w).

I threw my ASRock H670 ITX in a $25 AliExpress case ( https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806112050038.html ) with my modded fsp500 PSU and it didn't want to boot, so I did jumper the 5v to PW_OK on the 24-pin. Maybe the next one I mod I can bring that signal out if it's available internally.

The case fits the motherboard and PSU; but I want to make some custom cables to take up the slack. It's Juuust too small to fit a PIO 170x190mm motherboard and GPU. Although a cutout and a custom front panel might work. 5mm would have been plenty I think.

Good to know, I was wondering when we would come across a motherboard needing the PWR_OK. So far it's been none of the ones I have.
I recently moved a system to an SKTC A07 case (https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807168499891.html) Turns out the cables lengths for the 24p ATX and 8p EPS are perfect. I just used 12 wires again (original 10 + two 5v) going right into the 24p connector.

I have had a few that need PW_OK, the fans come on, but then pulse in speed slowly, it's almost easy to miss unless you look for it. I was using this as a test bench PSU, but it was difficult because of the missing PW_OK.
I plan to crimp Y jumpers at the 24-pin end and maybe bring out 3x 5V this time if I can't find the PW_OK. They will split into 6 for the 5x 5v and PW_OK.

Does anyone know if there are any other PSUs compatible with the FSP500-30AS? Mine has just died after a recent power cut (and it was giving me issues before that), but as I’ve discovered to my dismay, other PSUs in the same form factor do not necessarily have the same connectors (which I would have learned if I’d read the thread more carefully) 😭. I don’t seem to be the only one finding it a bit unreliable so I’d prefer to replace it with a compatible alternative if one exists?

btw, there's also the FSP500-50FDB

it's "only" 80+ Gold rated but does not need modding and (at least if I order it from Germany) the price is similar like the FSP500-30AS from China

Would love to see some photos inside if we can trace the PWR_OK wire if you have time after receipt (in case the board is similar) whoops thought you ordered one haha:) I see now it's the "common" FSP500 which uses a different board, PWR_GOOD very clear on it https://root-nation.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/fsp-flexguru-500w-43-scaled.jpg

You have an un-modded FSP500-30AS and need another with the same connectors?

Yep, or at least as far as I know it's unmodded — I pulled it out of my out-of-warranty Zotac Magnus ECM73070C. It does seem to have some extra bits on it compared to ones I've found on eBay, though.

Hmmm that looks mostly the same, top is the SMBUS connector, then the 10pin connector, then the 8pin EPS/CPU, then something that breaks out into 8pin PCIE/GPU power. Some kind of EMI shielding on all the non-SMBUS cables.

I think the only issue is that that 10pin layout is not a standard that we know of. But you could otherwise create a custom cable to reproduce it easily from any modular flexatx PSU.

Enhance modular PSUs such as from @Overtek

I'm sure @Overtek could create a 10pin cable from the 14pin connector that matches the 10pin layout since the 14pin contains all of the below pins and more.

Hi, Im just buy and modify my psu but with all my motherboards it wont start. I think pwr_ok is the problem. I tried to did jumper from 5v to pwr_ok but it doesnt help. all mb after start button press start for a second and then dont responce until i reconnect power cable. I also check all pins by psu tester and voltage meter. all seems good except -12v rail and PG signal. If i leave it blank tester says 0ms, if connected to 5v rail 00ms. Im also try 3.3 rail to pg signal (cos i think 5.2 was too high) but it doesnt work. Also what about 3,3 sense cable? i soldered it to 3.3 rail. what you guys did with it?

You mean you kept the 3.3v sense wire with the the 3.3v wire that was already sharing a connector right? That should be ok.

Does the PSU stay on if you short your PS_ON with GND? Or does it turn off after a time?

Do you have any pictures? Did you re-check all pins with the PSU on?

psu stays on if i jumped pson and gnd
I also rechecked all pins and all seems fine. Except-12v rail. seems tester is buggy cos no cable connected to this pin
Here the mobo video

Aha i found out that why mobo not response to second try to enable. If i leave psu connected after first try 20s it try to start another time

looks like an rather dated motherboard... so I assume it's caused by a missing voltage (e.g. -12V, like you said). I also had this issue with an socket 1155 board and a modded DELTA FLEX PSP a while ago. It worked fine with a normal ATX PSU but same issue like you are showing in your video with the modded FLEX unit.

Don't work. I missed some electronic skills to fix it

Tried another psu. Im eject -12 and pg cable and mobo start normal( now idk what happend. why mobo dont start with fsp?
So i find out that my psu is faulty. i buyed it used and think its broken. tester show normal info, but than i put some load like fan+hdd and jumpstart psu i see that fan blows very weak and slowly

That's strange, I had guessed the -12V is the culprit.

Maybe you still can check the voltages with a multimeter when it's connected to your motherboard?

I'm try it tomorrow. I think there are 3 possible solutions. Check 3.3v signal cable and resolder it from blank cable to my modular bracket. Try to unsolder 5v and check psu stability. Check input capacitor by tester

Thanks for the info, but I think creating a custom cable is above my pay grade 😅 If there's not a compatible alternative easily available I'll just buy another of the same model, as it still works out far cheaper than replacing the entire machine. Cheers!
