Run out of spare organs to sell on the black market? No first born child to send to the AI datacentres in return for a few lowly gigabytes? V-Color has the solution for you! They’ve introduced their new 1+1 ‘value pack’, which include one actual DIMM, and a filler module to ensure that you don’t get judged for not being able to afford to fill all your memory slots.
Whilst not a new concept (we recall CORSAIR having sold filler modules in the past), V-Color launching their range now, especially considering the AI boom making consumer memory unobtanium, stings a bit.
V-Color touts the advantages for the AMD Ryzen platform in the press release;
The concept is especially well suited for AMD Ryzen gaming systems, including the widely recognized Ryzen 7 7800X3D as well as the high-end processors such as the Ryzen 7 9850X3D. With AMD X3D architecture, single module DDR5 configurations remain a practical option for gaming focused users. This allows builders to start with one module now, lower their upfront cost, and upgrade later with a second memory module when needed.
They continue on with performance numbers in the release, but it all rings a bit hollow at today’s prices. Two sizes will be available at launch – a 16GB ‘kit’ and a 24GB ‘kit’, and will be available at the usual suspects. No pricing was supplied in the press release. We expect scammers to sell the dummy DIMMs as ‘real’ units on 3rd party markets soon after launch.
