How much power is needed and what kit should I order for my hardware?

Or is the HDPlex a better solution? I have never used a DC-DC PSU setup.

I'm putting some old hardware together for a traveling retro console PC running batocera.linux.

Hardware is the following.

CPU:
AMD Phenom II x6 1045T 95W TDP

Cooler:
Zalman CNPS2X

Mobo:
ZOTAC 880GITX-A-E AM3 mITX

Memory:
Corsair 2x4GB DDR3 1333

Storage:
Samsung 850 Evo

Possibly an additional 4x 40mm fans if power allows.

Sorry for being a newb...any help is greatly appreciated.

Dell and HP, at a minimum of 210W are the "go to" in such scenarios (reusability is always nice and plenty of headroom for extra disk drives, OC and fans). Beware of the fake ones and you'll be fine.

I wouldn't say one is better than the other, but here's some arguments that may help you choose:

Mini-box:
- Smaller
- Less heat
- Sells good external AC-DC adapters
- Can power up to a 95w cpu + pci slot powered gpu (eg. 1050ti)

HDPlex:
- A bit larger due to the heatsink and connectors
- Generates some heat due to 19v conversion
- PCI cable to power gpu
- Sells good internal AC-DC adapters
- Can power a 65w cpu + 1060
- You're buying from a small company that listens to our community and deserves to be supported

Fo your config, both could work.

The hdplex 160 has problems powering 65W + 120W combo. Maybe a 35w cpu. I'd wait until the next revision if anyone wants to power that much.

I'd get the Minibox.

That said, I will have a 160W plugin unit in a couple months. Should slot between the two.
