And....I'm now back on Linux for the first time in a solid year. Feels good to be home again. :)

Giving Garuda a try, always had a soft spot for Arch, but don't have the freetime to admin a system properly like Arch demands.

I had just given Garuda a test spin, no install, still feels a bit too much for me. And I've daily driven Manjaro before. Maybe it was the choice of desktop environment, but I will go for something more light.

But for my own reasons related to making a portable custom build, a priority is getting GameScope installed and working and no packages for it exist other than Arch.

Yea it is def 'heavy' then again I have a friggin 5800x and NVME storage and a 2070, so by god I'm going to use them XD. As heavy as Garuda is, it still boots faster than Windows. And most everything 'just works' without screwing around for hours in the Arch installer.

Having lived through the Old Days and feeling like a Man with an AM4200 dual core with 512MB of RAM...I don't want to go back, LOL, to light stuff. But that is the joy of *nix, we each get our own ideal world.

Today, I decided to turn on the built-in RGB of my system (GSkill memory and MSI display card) from now until New Year Day 2022.

During this brief period, it is neither vomit nor light pollution but magically becomes a Christmas tree lighting on my desk.

You know it’s going to be a good day ahead when your pc decides to do a Memory Management BSOD first thing in the morning, and going through multiple tries to reboot and failing to POST even after power cycling.

Couldn’t see the debug LEDs as the heatsink was blocking it. Thankfully, removing the RAM sticks and testing them individually in both slots seem to be all alright in the end. PC now seems alright with default settings.

Maybe time to recheck PBO stability.

Troubleshooting early and first thing in the morning eh?

Went for a run. Put my clothes in the washer afterwards and turned it on. Didn't notice that the edge of a sleeve had caught in the door. Went into the kitchen a little later after hearing a weird noise (the washer is under the kitchen counter) - drip-drip-drip from the door. Quite a bit of water on the floor. And underneath the plastic sheet thingy underneath the washer that's supposed to catch leaks - it had clearly gone around it. Spent maybe an hour mopping the floor, pulling out the washer, lifting the plastic to dry underneath it. Had also spilled over to the dishwasher next to it - luckily didn't have to pull that out, but still a major hassle.

Lesson learned: I should spend my time in front of the computer, not doing dangerous things like exercise.

What did I do? Tornadoes in the area. Power was out for 3.5 hours. On the upside, got to practice making a seance setup with lots of candles.

Peak wind gust ,easured at an actually official weather station today? 160kph. The storms today were actually movint almost that fast, which is ofc insane.

Our members have some new understanding of water-cooling and air-cooling respectively.
