Concept Spacing between I/O and chassis edge

Sorry for this probably dumb and misplaced question, but I couldn't find a better place for it.

Will I run into trouble by reducing the spacing drawn below? It's 9.5mm currently, which seems like overkill to me, but every case I've ever seen seems to be higher. Is there a danger in just pushing the I/O panel all the way to the edge, or at least closer? I couldn't find anything in the ITX spec or elsewhere about this...

There is a keep-out area defined in the ATX specc (page 14) of 2.54mm (0.1 inch). This is required on the inside and to a lesser degree on the outside of the case so the I/O shield can properly latch to the cut-out. Anything above that is not required.

That said, there might be other good reasons not to move the cutout right to the edge. Structural for example, or access to the standoffs and motherboard-screws.

Aside from the keepout, one other thing to be aware of is minimum flange height. This is usually between 3-6x the thickness of the material, plus the bend radius. So if the material is 1mm thick, and has a 1mm bend radius, the minimum height for the flange should be 4-7mm. This is a general rule for flanges though, and if you've got a situation where there's a smaller hole or cutout on a taller flange, it can be closer to the bend. It's best to check with your fabricator what they recommend for your specific project

The reason for the minimum flange height is that the press brake will have problems forming the bend with a smaller flange.
