while I am still enjoying my A2000 single slot mod in the 1L Thinkstation P350 Tiny for daily work, I realized that it gets a little bit too noisy for my taste during gaming... the original NVIDIA cooler works OK-isch but I thought there is still room for improvement...

inspired by the discussions in my original A2000 cooler mod thread and @robbee 's latest work I came up with a custom cooler design that features three Silverstone 5010 fans, a skived copper heatsink from Aliexpress and a DIY memory shim...

I would be interested to hear how the A2000 shunt mod goes, what little I have read says that it isn't as effective as modding the A4000

Looking great! I'm a bit sceptical about the shunt mod though. You're going to pull more than 75W out of the PCIe slot, which may not be the best idea?

If I'm going to mod it I'd probably add an additional 12V power cable as shown below...

and i believe some additional cooling for the VRMs would also be a good idea...

Any details on the DIY memory shim?

What you need to know? I can share the drawing here if you like...

Will this work with the coolmygpu copper plate? I want one of these heatsinks and shrouds!

I think the "Coolmygpu Copper Plate" is only 1.2mm thick in order to fit with the original NVIDIA cooler. Still should work if you use 0.8mm pads underneath (distance between memory and my heatsink is 2.00mm)

Id buy one of these in a heartbeat

I wasn't really planning to sell this but just share the design files for DIY. However, I may consider to run a small batch for the community if there's some interest. Price for the heatsink, shroud with fans and 1.5mm aluminum memory pad would be somewhere around EUR 110,- plus shipping.

This looks amazing. Bravo.

why are your copper fins running in the short direction? Isn’t the airflow still exhausting out the back? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I just got my first PC (hp z2 mini g9 w/ i7 12700k and a2000) and this is all new to me.

It’s a charming little pc, but the thermals and fan noise are… disappointingly mediocre. I mean, it is a tiny little thing after all; you know you’re making a trade-off right from the jump.

I don’t understand why gpu manufacturers don’t spend the extra money (very small at wholesale/factory pricing) to use better parts and more robust and quiet cooling solutions. E.g. Your mod here appears substantially better — more watts dissipated at lower rpm’s and lower noise) — than stock cooling, so why didn’t Nvidia do something like that?

not at all a dumb question. I also would have preferred the fins pointing in the other direction, but you need to take what's available...

saving just a few $$$ quickly add up to a couple of millions or so if you consider the amount of GPUs being sold... but I agree, compared to the RTX3XXX and RTX4XXX series FE cooler solutions, they could have come up with something better for the A2000 - at least better thermal pads and paste

Having a lower minimum RPM would cost them nothing and would at least solve the idle noise. The quality of the thermal paste and pads is also very low. But then again, we need motivation to make projects like this :D
