Hi! I'm new to the forum, not sure if this is the right place to ask, so feel free to move the topic if needed...

I currently own a PC with a Ryzen 7900 (non-X) and an RTX 4070 Super in an Asus Prime AP201 case.

It is relatively compact but I'd like to go for something really more compact that I could hide below my (small) desk. I like super clean aesthetics, and where I live (Europe) it's harder to get cases like the FormD T1, so I decided to go for the Dan A4 H2O.

Now, my current system is fully optimized for silence:

* CPU is specifically a non-X version for easier cooling, PBO is disabled
* CPU is oversized for the games I play so that it doesn't heat up. A 7900 at 30% will not heat as much as a 7600 at 60% for instance
* CPU cooler is a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE,
* PSU is a semi-passive, oversized 850W (Corsair RM850x) to allow the fan to almost never run
* GPU is a Ventus 3X model specifically for quieter cooling. I also used custom fan curves.
* I also added one Arctic P12 PWM PST intake fan on the bottom and three exhaust on the top

The system while on light-to-moderate load is absolutely inaudible, even up close it's hard to tell that the PC is on. On heavy loads (e.g. 100% GPU usage) the PC makes a very small amount of noise, the room really has to be silent to hear anything.

And that's basically the highest noise level I'm comfortable with. I don't want to hear the system at all, I'm very - very - sensitive to noise, and I don't wear headphones.

Now, if I downside to a Dan A4 H2O, the airflow will obviously be worse than the AP201 which is a 3x times bigger, all-mesh case. So my question is: is it possible to get this level of silence (without compromising performance too much of course) with an H2O? Or is is impossible?

Downsizing will require me to purchase a new motherboard, a new PSU (Corsair SF750), the case obviously, as well as a new cooler (thought about the Thermalright AXP90-X47 full cooper). But I'd rather not invest that much money before being 100% sure I could have a super, super silent build while gaming at 4K.

Could someone enlighten me on this? Many thanks :)

I don't think you'll have a noise problem with A4 H2O with those parts.
Your GPU temps aren't going to see any significant increase even in a small case, the 4070 Super generally runs pretty cool.
Your CPU will stay cool under a quality 240mm AIO, since it will cool as good or better than the Thermalright PA 120 SE. You mentioned the AXP90-X47, but as the name suggests, the A4 H2O is specifically designed for AIOs. If you are going with the A4 H2O and you want a quiet build then it makes no sense to not use an AIO.

Anyone? This would really help me :)
as was already mentioned: go with an AIO, the A4-H2O is not optimized for air cooling.

Just fine-tune the fan curve, and pick an AIO known for silent / low noise operation. Also, good fans that are optimized for a balanced performance, eg. Noctua or be quiet SW 4 Pro, gonna help tremendously.

If your goal was air cooling, and want to stay below 15L, either try and get a second-hand Ncase M1 (non-riser) or accept some more fine-tuning and go with eg. the S400 (riser cable / sandwich style).

Here's two links to caseend with the above mentioned parameters:

1. Classic/Traditional/no riser cable layout, < 15L
2. Sandwich / riser cable, 60 mm min cooler height, < 15L

For reference: MSI Ventus 3X RTX 4070 Super is 308 mm long, acc. to Geizhals (308x120x43mm / 821g). As you didn't specify WHICH Ventus 3X, I just randomly picked one of them.

ok, Europe. So Geizhals is the better choice for search.

If it's aesthetics, then I wonder why you haven't come up with the prime suspect, ie. the Fractal Design Terra? It's certainly more visual appealing than the harsh, "rectangular aluminium brick" industrial look of the H20. Also supports the length and size of your GPU easily.

But: If it's more vertical space you need, I'd suggest looking for something like the Meshroom S or the Hyte Revolt 3. The first one being far more advantageous, because you could reuse everything of your current system BUT the CPU cooling and PSU.

Meshroom is optimized for AIO / Water-cooling, but if you're adamant on air cooling, you could make do with your relatively skinny GPU, because Meshroom S has both a 3 and 4 slot mode. The case comes setup at start in 3 slot mode, and leaves enough space for an air cooler / CPU block of up to 77 mm. So, eg. Thermalright AXP120-X67 or ID-Cooling IS-X67-XT.

As a matter of fact, I recently restarted working on my Mesh-mATX build, because after moving, my desk space is still lacking. Also, my current system is sitting in an AP201, too. Superb case, but it wastes soooo much vertical space 😱😭😅

There are quite a few ATX mb builds with the Meshroom S, I'd suggest looking them up on YouTube 😎
