I am contemplating to put AXP90-X53 full copper in H2O to cool 8500G. This was done before, however I haven't seen any meaningful noise measurements.

2mm clearance concerns me as I'd rather avoid additional noise created by the air movement.

Thoughts?

I'd just test it. You could also replace the fan with an NF-A9x14, and try out a 2 mm fan duct.
Other people suggest using an Air Slimmer 90.

In terms of noise level, it might get marginally better, at least acc. to this test:


Albeit I'd say its less the issue of the overall noise level, more one of the sound PROFILE.

Edit: The last test / review you linked does show decent sound tests though?
