New configuration SFF with AMD Ryzen 3900x

Hello everybody!

I'm planing to config my first SFF build. Im looking for ITX case and air cooler for cpu (3900x)

anyone configured with FD Node 202 with 3900x? What about temps on burn (no OC, just as is)? What cooler for CPU? Share your experience.

Also it will be perfect to set 3.5HDD (would love to) and keep max small size and ATX power suply (but I can change it on SFX).

I looked Cougar QBX here (in hometown), but it still pretty big.

It is very important that temperatures are normal under full load (render, some games).

ps: sry for my english.

Thank you for any help.

I honestly dont see you cooling a 3900x 12 core chip on air in that case. I mean you got like what...60 mm of cooler height clearance? There is no cooler rated for that tdp in that form factor.

You got 3 choices in that enclosure:
- undervolting and downclocking your 500 dollar cpu
- downgrade to a part with less tdp
- take an itx gpu and squeeze an aio in there

Just my thoughts

If you like FD Node 202 my suggestion is save up for Sentry 2.0 and AIO setup. You'll end up throttling that 3900x and toasting everything else in the system. It's not just cooler height restrictions, it's just pure bad airflow.

Throttle temp is 95°C.

I agree with the others here. The FD Node 202 is a bad idea in your case. From my experience the 202 with covers installed has a hard time keeping even low power CPUs cool. I suggest that you look for a case that will let you install a tall CPU air cooler or AIO water cooler.

I ended up scrapping out my 202.

Thanks a lot for answers. So, what about Cougar QBX? Maybe someone had a good experience? Or can u recommend me something compact with good airflow?
btw, what about AMD Wraith Prism is it OK for Ryzen 3900x in compact case (QBX for x'mple)?

Cougar QBX. Just use the cooler the 3900X comes with. If it is to loud for your taste lower the PPT a little.

Package Power Target. As far as I know. The amount of power you allow your CPU to consume. You can lower it in the Ryzen Master Software to quickly find out what works for you im terms of heat/noise/performanceloss. Than go into the BIOS and put in what you decided on permanently.

On my R5 3600 it was 77W I think. And now it is running at 56W. Not much performance loss but a lot less heat.

Yes you have a 500€ CPU... but pay 10% more for silence (aftermarket cooler) OR give up maybe 5% performance for silence..? You can at least try the boxed cooler is my advice.

OK I looked it up. With Ryzen 3000 it is 88W for a 65W TDP CPU and 145W on a 105W TDP CPU.

So with Stock 88W PPT I had a Cinebench 20 Score of 3450... and with very low 49W PPT I had 3150 points (and that is multicore where you would lose the most performance).

45% less power consumption/heat. 9% less performance. Only reason I went with 56W is because it is still very silent (Wraith Stealth!) and a nice number... :p

What kind of memory is best without OC manipulations with this CPU (ryzen 3900x or its similare Zen2) to maximum perfomance. I mean InfinityFabric works 1:1 (is optimal , fine rate?) with memory freq.?

What freq. and timings?
3200@CL14
3200@CL16
3600@CL17
3600@CL19

Maybe even some specific memory vendors or concrete modules, with size 16gb per one module (without RGB, or tell me how to shutdown RGB on memory, no interesting fashion like christmas tree)?
