Power Supply HDPlex AC-DC and DC-DC combo

Is it possible to make the all the cables that are soldered to the direct plug and PSU boards all black? It would look much cleaner compared to the multiple colors shown. I know the photos are of pre-production units, so I'm asking if it's possible to change the cable colors for the final units.

Has anyone talked to HDPLEX about making GaN PSU's in order to shrink the size of their products?

Yeah I have. At the time, Larry was not aware of GaN options but was going to look into it. GaN is still very niche at the consumer level. Looking at Transphorm as an example, most of their stuff works at 600V and is industrially focused. FinSix is a real front runner, and if you look at their history they took damned near forever to make good on their Dart kickstarter. I just figure given our niche of the PC community and the need/desire for super small power units, we probably have enough people to act as early adopters at a higher cost.

The Zolt is not using GaN last I checked. They couldn't make it work and rushed a very small Silicon solution to market, I presume to beat out FinSix for market share in the small ~65W wall wart space.

I really like the combo of the 300w AC-DC and 300w DC-ATX. It is a solution for all of us who want a passive SFX option. Mounting will be tricky though.

Larry has a bracket that mounts them both and lets you attach them at an ATX PSU attachment.

It can mount both the 300w AC-DC and the 300w DC-ATX?

That bracket won't work for the both the 300W units, the AC-DC is 62mm wide and the DC-ATX is 51.5mm wide, while there's only 86mm of space available to keep within the ATX PSU form factor.

I think it was a youtube video about some custom ordered Nidec 120mm fans where a re-seller was talking about the fan wires not being black, and he said the OEM wouldn't do that for him because they use the color of the wires to Q/A if the fan's were being produced properly. It sounds like that's what is going on here as well.

Yeah, I can't find it now but that was I believe that was a video from DazMode talking about what it took to get that custom batch made of Gentle Typhoons made for them by Nidec.

I wonder if the new 300W AC-DC box would fit in the S4 with a 1060 mini, or maybe even that Zotac 1080 mini.
seems like it might be too big
