Hello,

I'm new here, and I haven't built a PC before.

With the release of Nvidia's new Super graphics cards, my goal is to build a long-lasting ITX system this July. I'd like that build to centre around the four components listed in this thread's title. The first three prove to be reliable choices in the Youtube tech community, as I'm sure most of you will aware. My performance aim with the system is to play singleplayer titles such as RE:2, Metro: Exodus and Control at 1440p resolution, with 100fps on high to ultra settings. However, I am aware the ITX form factor can suffer thermal problems, as well as demand certain part and size configurations. Given my lack of experience, I thought to present my thoughts to people more competent than I, in the hopes discrepancies can be identified prior to purchasing the parts.

To construct the build - not including peripherals - my budget is $2000. I am interested in future-proofing the system, so around 16GB of 3200+ RAM and 1TB of storage is preferable. I am uninterested in RGB lighting, although feel free to recommend desk lighting solutions (along the lines of Phillips Hue). My choice of monitor, keyboard and mouse has been made, but given they don't affect the build directly, I've left them out. I'm unsure of which parts to choose. Here are some questions:

-> Memory:
Which RAM?
-> Storage:
Which SSD?
-> PSU:
How much power is sufficient?
Which PSU?
--> GPU:
How will I know which RTX 2070 Super variant will be compatible with the ASRock Z390 Phantom?

I will be unfamiliar with explanations which contain specialist terminology; so, for example, consider explaining what certain attributes of a component does before proceeding. I've browsed a few builds around here, and each of them was impressive. Glad to be here.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

I think going with an NCase M1 for your first ITX build is a wise choice. This small case is well thought and you will still have 'easy' access to you components.
However, one major thing missing in your description is what kind of cooling you want, air, aio water cooler or a watercooling custom loop. Have a look at what people already did with their NCase so that you get familiar with the different possibilities, as well as the restrictions of the case.

Memory:
one that doesn't interfere with your CPU cooler

Storage:
M.2 only if possible for no cable

PSU:
From what I see the 9900k needs 200W@stock and 250W@5GHz when running Prime95: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-core-i9-9900k-9th-gen-cpu,5847-11.html
And the RTX 2070 Super has got a TDP of 215W: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-rtx-2060-super-geforce-rtx-2070-super,6207.html
So I guess you will be safe with a 600W PSU, preferably an SFX one for low volume. The Corsair SF600 should be good as it stays quiet most of the time.

GPU:
No compatibility problem between this GPU and this motherboard. The latter even have a shielded PCIe port that could help giving some extra support to the RTX 2070 Super which seems to be an heavy one.
What you should look at instead is the compatibility of the GPU with the case: https://smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/ncase-m1-included-parts-list-gpu-size-restrictions.9844/

Hope that helps...
