Finally got announced, glad to see it actually launch.

Some highlights/lowlights:
  • Explicit support for Renoir, Picasso, and Raven Ridge (4xx0G, 3x00G, 2x00G, and Athlon G CPUs from 2018 and newer).
    • Still no explicit support for non-APUs.
  • Proper overclocking support, for both CPU and GPU portions, as well as voltage control
  • Memory speed of 2933MHz default, overclockable with DOCP/XMP to at least 3200 (they say 3200+, probably depends a lot on which APU you use)
  • 3 Video outputs: HDMI, DP, and VGA
    • HDMI looks like it's 2.0 and not 2.1, since it says 4k60. Some B550 boards support HDMI 2.1 with Renoir.
  • Physical dimensions are identical.
  • Still Intel 3168 WiFi (2016-era single stream AC WiFi 5) kit with the X300W. Don't buy it, get better wifi aftermarket.
Overall it just seems like a better A300. Wish they launched this a year ago, its not like the X300 chipset is new (it was announced in 2018).

Note that when you go and look at the Manual, it takes you to the old A300M-STX motherboard manual. It is NOT The same motherboard, you can see the correct manual PDF here.

You say it isn't the same board, how do you know that?

Well, they have different manuals, with different BIOS downloads, but other than that they are pretty much identical. I don't know if there's truly a difference between an X300 and an A300 chipset (if that even exists, or if the "chipset" is just the onboard SOC components of APUs, would explain the small number of USB ports), or if this is merely arbitrary product segmentation.

The manuals are virtually identical, minus the overclocking, and both have the same board layout and IO, A/X300 are "chipsetless". I was just trying to see if you had specific information about differences. I'm going flash the X3MSTX_1.40 bios on to my A300, the instant flash tool in the UEFI recognizes it if you change the X to an A. I just want to make sure my usb SPI flasher is working properly so I can recover if it doesn't work.

I was just thinking the same thing - does it then mean that using the Beta 3.60N Bios on the A300 will be just the same as the X300? It takes quite a while for new products to get to where I live and I was just strongly considering cobbling something together on the older A300 just to try it out

Was thinking of pairing a low-wattage APU like 3200G with a beefy air cooler like the Thermalright Macho for a lightweight fanless setup :)

No "chipset" in the sense of a device that is connected to the CPU via a dedicated high-speed interconnect and provides a number of functions and I/O does exist in designs with A300 and X300. I would bet that is where the overclocking lockout is realized and as such is hardwired and can't be softmodded via BIOS.

I do agree that X300 and A300 apart from overclocking look identical and I don't like that. Would be very little effort from the vendor. Seeing how little headroom there is e.g. on the SOC MOSFETS on A300 (massive vdroop + high temps) I can't really see anyone OCing a 11 CU Vega from a 3400G on what appears to be, from the available information, to be basically the same board with the same supporting infrastructure (again 120W power brick, really?)

Well lucky for me if it can be unlocked I wouldnt be OCing the igpu, just the cpu as my build has a vega 56 nano running in an m.2 adapter in the bottom slot. Undervolting with maybe a small oc would help with power draw and gaming performance. In my specific use case.

Thanks for Your post. Can you please link to resource/s with details about the possibility of overclocking the RAM? THe ASUS support mentioned the 3200 RAM gets underclocked. I am considering to buy some space/energy efficient PC with similarly powerful CPU like 4800U and 64GB RAM possibility. Thank you

The issue with the X300M-STX 1.40 bios, Is some of the UEFI bios menu options are locked and/or hidden. I also have A300 and X300 desk-mini's. And I can access all options on the A300 bios, But not the X300. The X300 bios is missing AMD cbs, pbs, power options, etc. which is not a good sign. I contacted asrock technical support about this and basically got blown off. unless someone knows how you re-enable the menu options i think we are screwed. AMI BCP does not work on these bios roms either.

You should check out the X300 L1.46 bios listed over in the JZelectronic blog "31.12.20 19:13 BIOSe für ASRock Serie AM4", the drop down menu at the bottom of the page should have "DeskMini X300 - Version 1.46 (AGESA V2 1002)"

It has PBO, XFR, CPB, TSME, Global C-State. no PBS/CBS still. I have not messed with any of them and don't intend to.

Works fine for me, updated with the bios built in instant flash so it must be certified/validated i guess.
I have a 3400G and 64GB 3200C16, really hard to get it stable with any kind of memory overclock, in bios 1.40 and the 1.46 changing SOC VID or GFX VID/frequency causes throttling to stop working and thermal shutdowns under heavy loads. 1.46 did help with stability.

I also used UBU to update all orom/modules, GOP, vbios and microcodes.

I have replaced the VRM thermal pad with Fujipoly 17.0 W/mK 1.5mm and it did not seem to help at all.
Running the Noctua NH-L9a and a 220W Delta power brick.

I hope AMD releases a ZEN3 APU and the X300 is compatible.

I have an X300 with a 4650G and no matter what I try, Ryzen Master says it's not compatiable with this CPU But works fine with a 3000G on exactly the same setup...
I'm on 1.40 and am beginning to think this bios update might be required for ryzen master to work?

I believe you have already found out the information.

The download is a drop down menu at the bottom of the page.
Ryzen Pro CPUs are not supported in ryzen master I believe.

Yes! Much thanks.
It wasn't until after updating the bios did I confirm that the 4000 series is just not supported by Ryzen master application at all however (strange decision) however the newer bios does allow me to lower the TDP which it appears is doing a great job at undervolting the CPU so retaining performance whilst lowering thermals!
Admittedly I do like to tinker more hands on but this will be an adequate solution for now :)
