Nice find! Adding a pic of Galax's Mini eGPU for the lazy.

You think there is a CPU in it?? It has no I/O for a CPU, just video out ports...

No, I don't. But it's cool to see that mSTX is useful for a use-case like this as well, and also means that it might be possible to put this eGPU into a nicer looking case.

I wonder if they're just reusing a Mini-STX chassis, hence the IO shield.

It would be nice if the Gigabyte came with an Ethernet port, those can be useful for laptops. If the card is not removable, I think that would be a huge mistake on their part.

Sigh. Sigh.

The Sonnet Puck is AMD only. Problem: my laptop has a 940MX.

The Galax only has one DisplayPort. Problem: I have two PackedPixels.

TUL/Powercolor were showing off a unit similar to the Puck at CES this summer and I reckon this is it. Pretty amazing idea and will be interested to see if anyone else picks it up. This with a GTX1080 on a 200W brick could be compelling.

The Galax box features a 160, which supports DisplayPort Multi Stream Transport. You can output multiple independent DisplayPort streams from its single port, to connect to multiple monitors. You'd need an adapter like this, there are many available, just look for ones that support "Multi Stream Transport"/MST.

Thanks for the info, I am quite aware of this, I have carpet bombed what seems like half the Internet to find a power passthrough version of the CSV-1545 but nothing. And since I want an eGPU anyways and an 1050 is plenty for me (I had a 660 and then an RX 460, both were fine), the economical solution would be to get a portable 1050 containing eGPU and call it a day. But if it's an 1060, I will live but the 1050 needs a much smaller brick and cooler.

Somebody needs to make something like a PoE injector, but for USB-C

I don't really know if this fits here, so sorry if it doesn't. But if anyone still needs the thunderbolt controller, he/she could buy a thunderbolt box, like the gigabyte with the 1070 and sell the 1070.

with the arrival of PowerColor's Vega 56 Nano edition, I hope we could see small Egpu enclosures like Gigabyte's Gaming Box with this Vega56.
