Looking at it now though, the longer vents would need separated into smaller sections to avoid weakening the panel.

That is a nice and novel design.

Instead of hard corners, try some rounding, easier to cut and might look a little "softer"

I thought because there are no other roundings in the case there should be no ones there.

A laser can get pretty sharp corners but cuts with a CNC router or mill will have rounded inside corners due to the diameter of the bit.

Yeah I'll have it laser cut anyways because I need the dark burned look on the edges

I think that would look good with the wood. If you made it from a metal sheet, the sharp corners may have been too sharp, but with wood it will be just fine. Looks very cool in my opinion, didn't see something like that before.

The smaller triangles may be hard to do well thru 6mm material. But that's what prototypes and test pieces are for, right?

Inventor did well in the TP, but I haven't actually tried it under the full release. Now you've given me worries :/

How do you like Solid Edge for designing a case? I've heard it to be potentially frustrating to not have a work feature history where you can change an older feature without affecting new ones. Is that even still the case with ST7?

Try to find out in forums first if it works before you upgrade I did that to late :/

About Solid Edge: The main reason for me to use it is that it is the CAD we learned how to use in school and they have this student free license program which I used now. I'm still not very good at designing and using all its features so I can't say anything about your designing history question. Mabye google knows more
