Nvidia GeForce GTX 980Ti in 2022. Can It Still Game at Ultra Settings?

In my experience, the GTX 980Ti is one of the best video cards ever produced. It was launched in the middle of 2015 at a now reasonable $649, and was nearly as fast as the Titan X of the time. It packed 6GB of VRAM which gave it lasting performance far longer than the 4GB GTX 980. It packed enough performance that it gave the next-generation 70 and 80 series Nvidia cards a run for their money. Quite frankly, there wasn’t a reason a to upgrade it unless you went for the GTX 1080Ti. However, at 7 years since its …

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 – Can The Once King Still Compete in 2022?

Written by Chris (aka Revenant) We are currently building a database of GPUs, and the very first one tested is the GTX 1080. As the database grows, we thought it would be fun to share some of the test results with you. In May of 2016 Nvidia officially launched their Pascal line of GPUs starting with GTX 1080. It was a step ahead of all the competition, and only got better as the drivers matured. Moreover, it sipped power at only 180 watts, overclocked like a champ, and could be pretty quiet with even the Founders Edition blower cooler. With …

Case Profile – Cubeor Kanto Wood mATX

Image Credit – Cubeor     We’ve come a long way since the days of purely functional beige boxes as our PCs. What was once just a cage to hide away the inner workings of our systems has today become far more. Modern cases are as much an expression of the user’s aesthetics as they are protection for the parts within. Lighting, paints, high quality materials, and artistic flares are now part of choosing your parts just as much as ensuring compatibility. Some designs however, blend the world of art and function to an even higher degree. Let me introduce …

History of SFF gaming, 30 years of Falcon Northwest, and a Q&A with Falcon Northwest CEO Kelt Reeves.

This has been an article 6 months in the making. It was a lot of fun to research and cover the history of a hobby that’s so near and dear to all of us, but that joy paled in comparison to building inside an actual Falcon Northwest FragBox 2 chassis that I get to call my own. To that end, we’re happy to celebrate Falcon Northwest’s 30th anniversary this month and we’re thankful that we got to host a Q&A from their founder and CEO, Kelt Reeves. The History of SFF While some computer historians may argue, Small Form Factor …

FIRST LOOK: SilverStone FX600 Platinum Flex ATX Power Supply

FIRST LOOK SilverStone FX600 Platinum Flex ATX Power Supply Flex ATX power supplies have gained popularity in the never ending hunt for smaller and smaller PCs in the SFF world. Many though are industrial and server PSUs that will leave you deaf with their fans, or under powered for a high-end GPU.  Silverstone has taken notice and produced FX600 aimed squarely at the sweet spot of SFF. SilverStone sent us this PSU as a review sample. They issued no requirements, expectations, guidance, or demands for the review. They just sent it. As always, I will commend companies that show integrity …

FIRST LOOK: FSP Dagger Pro 850 Watt SFX PSU

All Photo Credits – Revenant   FSP. It’s not a name I think about when power supplies come up. I’m guessing it’s probably not a name that most readers think of. However, I bet you know the names OCZ, SilverStone, Thermaltake, Nexus, Zalman, Antec, and Sparkle. Why do I bring that up? Every single one of those companies have relied on FSP to design and manufacture power supplies for them. Let that sink in for just a minute. The OEM for some of the most well known and respected brands is FSP, and FSP has just decided to cut out …

First Look – MSI MEG Z690I Unify ITX Motherboard

Author: Chris (aka Revenant) Alder Lake is upon us and has set the small form factor world on fire. Well, maybe not on fire but damn close as the 12900K can easily hit 100C even with a 360mm distinctly-not-SFF AIO. Still, because of this Chernobyl reactor fire of a CPU, we are treated to the new Z690 chipset which offers some compelling new features. MSI has put together one of the most interesting and compelling Z690 ITX boards so far, so let’s take a quick look at it before I start torturing it on our test bench. Thanks to MSI …
