AMD is getting ready to kick off CES 2023. I’ll be posting live updates as it happens. Keep refreshing this article as it happens. Also check out the SFFN Discord for live discussion of the event.

Update 1: The opening of the conference reminds me incredibly of the 3dFX Voodoo graphics ads from back in the day. I’m really hoping they’ll suddenly rip a chip out of someone’s hand and say “but we decided to use the tech for games!”

Update 2: They did not make it funny. I’m sad. Also they introduction has started with AMD patting themselves on the back about their tech. They’re also reading off Lisa Su’s biography and resume.

Update 3: Lisa Su is taking the stage with a very WWE feel.

Update 4: Lisa Su is on stage talking about how semiconductors are  changing lives and are part of every aspect of modern tech. She’s going into an AI Focus now.

Update 5: AMD Announces the XDNA AI engine built into the new AMD Ryzen 7040 Series. they’re showing it beating the M1 Pro by Apple and Core I7 Intel. Apple lost by 30%.

Update 6: AMD is claiming 30 hours of battery life in video playback with the Ryzen 7040 series. However, the size of the battery wasn’t mentioned.

Update 7: Panos Panay from Microsoft has taken the stage. Immediately embarrassed Lisa Su about her jacket.

Update 8: Panay is speaking about using various AI based techs such as Portrait Blur, Eye Contact, running directly on the AMD AI units for a fraction of the power and performance cost compared to the general purpose X86.

Update 9: Panay has left the stage, and Lisa Su has moved on to hybrid work schedules and the issues effecting workers who use hybrid work. Enrique Lores, the President and CEO of HP has come out to assist with this topic.

Update 10: Lores just stated that within 10 years he believes that 50% of the workers in the US will be freelancers. Not good for retirements.

Update 11: HP going on about their DragonFly tech. It’s a power optimized system with an emphasis on features that make working from home easier.

Update 12: Now we’re onto gaming. Starting with mobile.

Update 13: AMD has announced the Ryzen 7045HX CPUs. They’re claiming substantial improvements in content creation. Good for SFF systems based on mobile chips.

They’ve paired it with the Radeon 7600M XT  GPU.

Update 14: Lenovo is showing their AMD Product line. They’re also introducing their Legion Pro line of AMD based laptops.

Update 15: Now we’re onto the good stuff. Lisa Su has announced the new 3D cache Ryzen 7000 series. This time, it will include 8, 12, and 16 core units.

Let’s make something clear here. NO PRICES MENTIONED.

Update 16: AMD is now showing various medical fields that their tech is used in. This is part for investors. This ranges from hand held ultrasound units for rural areas, to AR based medical practice.

Update 17: AMD is showing their tech used in NASA and other members of the space industry.

Update 18: We’re now on 4th Gen AMD EPYC Processors. Rubbing salt in Intel’s wounds.

Update 19: Going fast now with an emphasis on AI based hardware.

Excellent, hopefully soon the 5800X3D will drop in price as well.
I have a feeling they will cease production of the 5800X3D around the launch of the 7xxxX3D rather than drop it's price. Just my opinion, no source to back it up.

Oh I don't mind buying second hand, but these are almost as expensive used as new. I expect this to change soon.
