Tech Notice, who focuses on PC hardware from a creator perspective, has taken a look at the ASUS ROG STRIX X670e-i and declared it the best AMD AM5 ITX motherboard on the market. It should be noted that it is also the only X670e ITX motherboard on the market. The rest are B650.

The video includes an unboxing, overview of the boards features, and explanations on how they would effect users. While the overview isn’t an indepth test, it’s still a good look at the board from the creator perspective.

While AMD mid-range and low-end processors have fallen out of favor from a creative point of view, they are still quite capable. Personally, I have worked on numerous Lightroom Classic catalogs and Adobe Premier projects using a Ryzen 5600X / RTX 4060 combo, and have been pleased with the results. While not as fast as my Intel rigs, editing in Premier Pro on the AMD platform was good so long as I had a GPU capable of doing encode and decode of the codecs I was using. Additionally, I was able to avoid some of the heat issues that Intel PCs are prone to these days, use a less expensive CPU and motherboard combination, and build in a smaller case. The afforementioned Ryzen 5600X /RTX 4060 build is in a 4L Densium 4 case where as my Intel 12600K / RTX 3070 rig is in a far larger Louqe Raw S1.

I mention this because many people can’t afford to have a dedicated rig for editing and separate rig for gaming. With AMD’s 16-core X3D processors, there is a CPU that could theoretically appease both albeit at a rather high cost. It may not be necessary though depending on your use case. The 8-Core 7800X3D can still perform quite well in 4K editing environments when paired with an appropriate GPU encoding and decoding. Optimum Tech’s editing and gaming PC of choice was powered by the AMD X3D and Nvidia GPU combo, and he uses some very demanding codecs and editing techniques.

From a gaming and editing perspective, I would personally be quite happy with a Ryzen 7800X3D paired with a Nvidia GPU that has dual NVENC units  such as the RTX 4080 Super. This combo could, with a bit of forethought and tuning, could run in some very small cases such as the Dan A4-H20, Louqe Raw S1, and NCASE M1.

Having had an x570-I...not buying a motherboard from Asus again. Bad or missing thermal pads in tear-the-entire-motherboard-apart to get at places.

I wish I had bought the B550-I that came out a couple months later instead TBH.

In SFF 10 years ago we were used to 100$ motherboards and 400$ cases, now we have 400$ motherboards and 100$ cases.
Won't you think of the wallets ?!
