The official Commander X16 case by Lazer3D is up for pre-orders. Coming in at 4.5L, the X16-P supports not only the official Commander X16 motherboard with a bespoke rear panel, but also any ITX or MATX boards on the market today. Height is limited to 40mm for CPU coolers, and there is no space for PCIe cards. 65W APU builds are recommended.

For those that don’t know, the Commander X16 is a modern 8-bit computer system that has been the passion project of the 8-Bit Guy. It features a Western Design 65C02 CPU at up to 8MHz, 512KB of RAM that is upgradeable to 2MB, a custom VERA graphics chip with 16-channel sound generator, and a Yamaha 8-channel FM synthesizer. The system also includes a cartridge slot so that games with additional processor chips can be produced.

While these specs don’t mean much to anyone who didn’t live or grow up in the 80s, they are actually quite impressive. The system, from a power perspective, is more than capable of replicating Sega Genesis class graphics as seen in this Sonic the Hedgehog tech demo.

Pricing is set for 149 Euros or approximately $160 US. Check out the official product page by CLICKING HERE.

I really like the design of this. It would be cool to see a version one day that's still similar dimensions but takes half-height cards.

I think I would like to see a horizontal adapter so you can mount the GPU flat.

They do have right angle adapter to fit the memory expansion board horizontally

The Lazer3D Commander X16 themed LZX-15 is also quite cool and allows for all 4 slots to be used : https://lazer3d.com/2023/05/12/commander-x16-case-available-for-pre-order/
