It’s official. As of April 2023, Maximum PC is dead.
Frankly, this one hurts to loose. Maximum PC started as Boot, and has been around since the 1990s. I can vividly recall the joy of reading them in throughout the early 2000s, and I still get them today. They had good tech articles, reviews, and I’ve always loved their annual Dream Machines even if I could only afford the Lean Machine. Dream Machine 2003 has always resonated with me, though I also loved their return to beige and Saturn V based rigs as well.

Unfortunately, no one wants to pay $10 for a magazine anymore. Even with a subscription, I’ve often ended up putting off reading the latest issue because by the time it got to me, I’ve already read or watched all the reviews already. It certainly doesn’t help that the mail system damaged half of my issues. One looked like it was dragged behind the mail truck before being shoved into my mailbox coffin.
Still, I’m going to miss them. I suppose fans can take some solace in the fact that at least Maximum PC didn’t go the way of CPU Magazine and become nothing more then a giant advertorial.
Google has a free archive of the late 90s and early 2000s Maximum PCs. They’re a good read. CLICK HERE to check them out.
