I already have a z370 8700 1060 build. I have just bought a xigmatec nebula c. I am a silence fiend so am seriously considering buying a corsair hx1200i so that I can use up to 500-600w without the fan coming on. Am I taking things too far or is this something that is normal for silence seekers?

If I were in your situation, I would rather have a passive (fanless) PSU, especially considering that the CPU is 8700 (non-K version, meaning not to be overclocked) and the GPU is a 1060 (relatively not so power hungry).

I would pick Seasonic Prime Titanium Fanless 600W or Enermax Digifanless 550W. Both have high jonnyguru ratings and save 'substantial' amount of money.

I would be up for either of those however in the UK they are both the same price as the Corsair HX. I will do some hunting for deals on passive psu.

The HX is £207 from a website called ebuyer. https://www.ebuyer.com/700189-corsa...ferral&utm_source=pricespy&utm_campaign=pcomp

Im stuck for options in the UK. My only other viable option is the RM1000i for £145. We got it bad over here PC parts wise

There are good deals on EVGA psu's but I have heard bad things about ECO mode

What do you think of this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seasonic-P...F8&qid=1525866440&sr=8-1&keywords=passive+psu

Im worried about not having a fan in the nebula c a little bit.

So, you are not going to install any case fan?
What kind of airflow management inside the Nebula C are you planning for?
Do you have a complete list of hardware components?

I was planning to stick my 8700 and watercooled 1060. Drill out the hard drive bracket of the nebula c and mount the 120 rad with push pull. CPU i was thinking Cryorig c1 or phanteks phtc12ls with noctua nf-a15 mounted to it

I checked out the Nebula C a little bit more and I think I will retract my suggestion of using a passive PSU.

This is because even a passive PSU relies a little bit of airflow to carry off its heat, usually achieved from a positive pressured case with some airflow. However, I reckon the Nebula C is a case with very little airflow (relying on the single rear case fan for exhaust, making the case to be negative pressured). In addition, the PSU will be installed not with its ventilating top facing upwards. These 2 conditions make the Nebula C not very suitable for a passive PSU, IMHO.

I never heard the fan turn on in my Corsair 750. I mean, it comes on, or is always on, but it makes no noise.

I have 3 of them running in my house in different builds.

Now, my EVGA 750 G3 is a different story, that thing does spin up and is very audible...

5930k at 4.5GHz and an overclocked EVGA 980Ti SC+

I can easily draw 700W from the wall under load (so says the display on my UPS).
