I have to be careful not to start playing Sid Mieir's Alpha Centauri if there's anything I'm supposed to be doing for the next few hours.

Basically all turn based games. Following are my nemesis:
  • Civilization
  • Legend of Grimrock
  • Baldur's Gate
  • UFO / XCOM
And my all time Nemesis is:
  • Transport Tycoon Deluxe
.... openTTD doesn't help either. This is like the original game, but with tones of mods.

No Man's Sky is out on PC today, so I decided to see how it was doing:
http://www.pcgamer.com/the-pc-version-of-no-mans-sky-is-a-mess-for-some-players/
http://www.pcgamer.com/no-mans-sky-will-be-patched-in-the-near-future-to-address-launch-concerns/

TotalBiscuit was streaming this but gave up because of the continuing stuttering (video, sound, movement, microphone, everything), the general lack of graphics optimization (he was running a GTX 1080 at 1080p with settings high-medium: 60-80fps), ugliness of the game and sheer lack of any point to the game.

As TotalBiscuit said again and again, which I sincerely echo often: DON'T PREORDER GAMES ! Another game that was released in a state that Batman Arkham Knight was released in, because they already had your money with people shouting: "I don't care how polished the game is, release it already". And now we have another steaming pile of jittery doo-doo.

I was 50/50 whether to get it, my main concern was that I would end up playing it too much!

To be honest, I'm still undecided whether to get it or not. It looks fun, but boring at the same time.

Tried NMS on my 6700HQ/970M notebook, runs like total crap.

Apparently if you "pre-ordered" and redeemed the bonus ship as soon as you start playing, your progression will be blocked...

Bucking the curve, I've had zero crashes with NMS thus far, and the only framerate drops were in the 20-30 second after initial load while the environment generates.

I've currently been playing the hands down best game currently existing since 2011.

Mount & Blade : Warband, with the Napoleonic Wars dlc.

I joined into that community in 2011, and am currently a part of one of the biggest, friendliest and best regiments out there. ;)

Other great games:

Europa Universalis 4
Crusader Kings 2
Hearts Of Iron 4
Arma 3
Borderlands 2

Are you perhaps running with 30 or 60 max fps set ? I'm thinking that since the game is developed for console, the game's streaming is expecting there is some CPU power available, which most likely isn't when unlimited max fps is set.

How are you enjoying it ? It seems like a game that gets repetitive pretty fast due to the lack of events happening and everything depends on the procedural concept that just seems to churn out 90% of the same content.

I've got to set to 60 at the moment (no point in rendering frames I can't see) but I'll try fiddling with it to see if it has an effect.

I've been having fun with it so far. Been trying to follow the 'plot', but keep getting distracted by That Shiny Looking Thing Over In The Other Direction. The limited inventory space is starting to be a bit of a drag though.

Have not played Civ for a long time. I do like XCOM a lot. I love the ShadowRun series, however.

Empire Total War and Rocket League for me recently. Lots of Rocket League.
I played that last weekend. Car and ball control are not simple. Seeing streams of the game made my jaw drop. Just mind-blowing.

Excellent game and runs well enough on older hardware.

I've been playing a bit more Starcraft 2.
Got my Karax leveled, and working on Artanis. Picked up a couple achievements for the Nova missions.
Still won't touch multiplayer.

Unless you're trained in elite black ops RTS game training camps for the past year, SC2 multiplayer is like a hurricane of shrapnel and hot peppers coming right for you. At the very release of the game, I tried it. It already grinded me to a fine pulp when people were still figuring out the units. But I suck at competitive RTS games, so YMMV.

I miss Real Time tactics games like World in Conflict and the like. I'm quite good at those, and I was decent at other RTSes that did include basebuilding, but for some reason, I just can't hack it at Starcraft.

I'm STILL mad End of Nations was turned into a poor MOBA frankensteninan monster and then canceled when everyone realized that idea sucked.

There are 3 RTS I go back to.
Dune II
Dune 2000
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance

Dune II when I'm feeling nostalgic and have a need to click everything individually, yes no selection boxes!
Dune 2000 when I'm feeling nostalgic but not so much that single clicking is required
Supreme Commander when I want some grand scale fighting and manufacturing.
