@Choidebu : I think wiring the MeanWell straight to the GPU - and CPU, for that matter - is exactly what @Thehack suggests in his 12v Power Supply Guide thread, unless I'm reading his diagram wrong (which is not outside the realm of the possible!).

And yep, copy the different voltage requirements depending on your dc-dc solution of choice.

Correct. There are some unintended side effects when the pc is "off", usually the LED stays on the gpu, and sometimes the fan can stay on as well. I've had 3 separate builds with an always on 12V and it works fine.

However if the power spec is not correct then you should not wire straight to cpu/gpu without a ripple suppression circuit.

I may design another board for simple load switch if you have an in-spec PSU. Regardless, the distro board does both with only a small cost increase ($10). Meanwell builds are still very uncommon so I'll play it by ear.

Just a question to you guys using the MeanWell with an hdplex dc-dc unit : what kind of ram do you have?

I have the 24v MeanWell with a KMPKT dc-dc unit (which is essentially the same as the hdplex 160w dc-dc unit). Running a 7350k with an EVGA 1060 3gb. I'm getting shutdowns after one or two minutes of Heaven only. I had my 7350k overclocked (light - [email protected]) but the same thing happened at stock clocks as well. If I go back to my standby RM550x, all is well, so the fault lies with my power system.

Looks to me like the KMPKT unit is very warm after shutdowns, which leads me to believe it might be the cause (but I'm far from sure!). I am using Corsair Vengeance LED ram, so fairly tall - hence my question. I wonder if the tall team is impeding cooling...?

@Thirumal Kumaran : the KMPKT unit has four DC inputs wires (two negative, two positive). I just wired them directly into the two positive and two negative outputs of the MeanWell. Why did you say earlier in this thread to combine each of the two same wires into one before connecting to the MeanWell?

What do you want to ask exactly? 160W is not enough for 1060. By itself its tdp is, what, 120W/135W?

The maximum you can do with 160W psu is 1050ti, period. Dynamo/hdplex 160 can be pushed to 200ish but YMMV, and def need active cooling.

according to here and a few other places around the interwebs (that seems to be the only officialish one, just google dynamo 200 kmpkt), the dynamo mini can handle 200w constant, although i believe it has been said that the dynamo mini is a complete copy of the hdplex 160.

after reading this thread I kinda also want to do 200w meanwell 1060+ryzen. not in the s4m though

edit: just had another look at the hdplex 160's specs page and noticed:

CPU 12V+PCIExpress 12V Support 15A with 20A Peak

maybe I need educating a bit, but isnt 12V x 15A 180w? and isnt that a lot more than 160?

Sorry to necro this old thread @Zackmd1 but I am thinking about doing a brickless build in my old Catz C-1 case. Still not sure if I'll use a 1050ti or wait to see what happens with the RTX/GTX 2050's but it won't be too high power. My real question is asking if you would suggest going with the Xbox One S converter or the Meanwell 200w one? I was going to pair either one with a Pico 160XT.

Agreed as well. The xbox power adapters were a fun experiment but the meanwell is the more stable power delivery option.
