Did some more benching today, stress testing the CPU with an undervolted 8700k. I did not delid the CPU

Processor: i7-8700k
Heatsink/Fan: Noctua L9i
Idle Temp: 31C
Load Temp: 72C ~ 75C
Voltage: 1.088v ~ 1.120v
TDP: 65W ~ 75W

Fan noises became pretty audible at full load running at ~2300 RPM

Nice,

Slow the fan down if you want, you have the thermal headroom to do so. TJmax is 100C, and unlike 1000 series nvidia GPUs, it wiill run at full whack until you get to 100C....

That's what I've done with my system, fan runs at about 800rpm until 55C, then ramps up to 100% at 85C. Upshot is, it doesn't run at full speed anymore (even in Prime95 where the fan spins at 2000rpm). The GPU fans spin at 800rpm up to 55C, but ramps up to 100% at 60C - which only happens when gaming.

Outside benchmarking and gaming, I can't hear my S4 Mini at all, which I find incredible given it's got an 8700K and 1080 Mini in there...

Quick question: i7-8700 or a i7-8700k for a brick less build? Would an undervolted, delided 8700k run the same or cooler than a 8700?

I'm using a 1050ti btw and am using the HDPlex 400 with a noctua fan low profile for cooling.

The difference on the k is unlocked multiplier. Else both are same. If you are planning to undervolt there would be no difference between both..

Going brickless with an HDPlex 400? Would you even be able to take advantage of that? I thought only the 200W brick fit in the S4M.

As planned, will fit with a Gigabyte 1080 Mini (front of case) or a reference height GPU (bottom of case). Unfortunately the Zotac 1080 is oversized with respect to height (125mm vs. 111.15mm) and length (211mm vs 170mm), and will likely not work without some form of modification.

Would (with an HDPLEX 400W & Gigabyte GTX 1080) the graphics card expel a lot of heat into the brick? @Kmpkt, do you have any ways to get around this when using your two 160W bricks, as one of them is in the same location as the new brick? Thanks in advance!

Hey, thanks for the info! I'm about to buy a 160+160w combo for brickless build, now I'm defenetely waiting!

So you almost answered my biggest question!
Looks like new PSU will be same size in two dimentions, except maybe longer. (???x52x40mm)

To sum up:
170mm + any height GPU - PSU in front
190+mm +112mm height GPU - PSU in bottom (longer GPU, because no room for PCI-e connector???)
And if you have "wrong" motherboard layout (like mine) you can put PSU in front, next to motherboard and use pretty much any GPU up to 215mm.

Hello, I know I have to buy this specific power brick from dell for my s4 build.

Dell: http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell...h-6-ft-power-cord/apd/332-1432/pc-accessories

I got this instead, will this brick work?

Can any1 please help confirm for me. thanks

It just depends. The old DA330s vary wildly. You can safely power a 1060 off them in most scenarios, but a 1070 or 1080 it just depends on your game, settings, and the brick.

If you are willing to try both, go for the cheap one first.
