Hey guys, love this thread and all suggestions.

So got a question for you. Thought about getting an egpu that i can hide away in the drawer next to my ASRock machine. Now, most of them seem to be use a tb3 connection and i know it will be slightly slower than using the m2 slot directly with a gpu but would this work if i wanted both enclosures to be closed instead of opening the egpu case open as well and just use an M.2 ribbon to PCI-E x4 (outside or inside that external case).

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001122394744.html - M.2 NVMe M Key Extension Cable

https://www.aliexpress.com/i/4000557577340.html - thunderbolt 3 nvme ssd enclosure

If it does work, how much of an extra bottleneck would that be? Any other suggestions are welcome.

I can use the igpu from my 3400g inside a virtual machine. Here Windows 10. So I can use a Real driver for it. Is faster. Important is to install proxmox on a Debian 10 an switch of the driver for the igpu. Set in Blacklist. Is not vrealy stable right now. Must See What i need to become it more stable.

Hi,

Long-time reader, first-time poster here. I am trying to do something very similar with a 4750G Renoir APU I ordered (coming in few weeks, along with my X300 DeskMini), to pass through the iGPU to a Proxmox (or even Unraid) Windows 10 VM. Can you please share some more details on how you got it working after all?
From what I understand from your most recent comment from Semptember (which I'm replying to), you had to install Debian 10 on the system, then install Proxmox VE on that (as per https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Install_Proxmox_VE_on_Debian_Buster, I imagine). Then you set the amdgpu driver in the blacklist (pve-blacklist.conf file, or the Debian equivalent), then you just select the iGPU as if it was a PCIe device and add it to the VM via Web UI?

Any reason you had to do all this via Debian and couldn't just install Proxmox VE directly on the machine? You also say it is "not really stable right now", what do you mean by that?
I'm looking just to use it for basic work in this W10 VM, not gaming, so I don't care too much for performance just some basic level of VGA output.

Cheers.

see my egpu build here, well discussed and documented.

my additional thoughts for you: get the ADT-Link R43SG adapter like me. if you buy a gpu with silent cooling and alu backplate, it will be almost "closed enclosure" resistant to damages to the gpu with excellent airflow. you can just set it in the drawer and done. the only week part you have to protect is the ribbon cable this way.

Good luck with that / Take a look on that:

PS.: Just found 4650G on alternate.de for 199,99€ - seems they are finally reaching the market :)

Edit: Was about to order the 4650G... Can not find it anymore... Ohh boii

Edit 2: did found https://www.alternate.de/AMD/Ryzen-5-PRO-4650G-Prozessor/html/product/1658885 -- not available for 200€

Edit 3: I finally did purchase the 4650G for 240€ incl. Shipping. Will report.

I think you owe us an update, man. :D

I'd be interested to know how high you're able to overlock your SODIMM memory with the 4650G. ;)
Will definitely do. I'm kinda both curious and excited. Will be doing it using 3.60R-Version.

Will roll back to JEDEC 2400MHz, all stock. Then apply XMP test. If it works @3200 flawlessly without increasing SOC VID - chances are good to go for 3333MHz or 3400MHz. Well, can't decide what's better. Timings or frequency, either way there is not much difference. The speed increase is too low to act against higher timings. So maybe staying at 3200 with tight timings is a better option.

It should arrive on Friday :)

Stability will be done using FurMark for the CPU and UNINGINE Valley for APU, simultaneously for overall stability / power draw

Cheers

Btw: I do not know what safe voltages there apply for the Renoir-SoC, but overall I would not go above 1.13750 I believe.

I got a 4750G in mine X300, with 2*8GB 3200Mhz Crucial Ballistix, and they wont go any further than 3600mhz.

Is it stable at 3600 MHz?

I had mine regularly at 2400 MHz with tight timings and I just had a blue screen while loading Windows yesterday. :(

Perfectly stable at 3200mhz and only just did a 2hour ram test at 3600mhz, no problems there. only ram speed and ram voltage adjusted.

So, on 4650G arrived today. It managed to boot in Windows on DDR4-3400 frequency - was aboutto run a benchmark, but it crashed, maybe some voltage will help. I did not adjust voltage. Now XMP Profile test. If all runs well, then bump a bit voltage and go for 3400. I did already see in CPU-Z Graphics clock of 1700MHz.

Update @XMP/3200MHz 18-18-18-43-61/1T: SOC VID is by default at 0,994V -> Valley -> 0,938V => ~19xx Points
Auto Timings / 3333MHz / SOC VID=1.1V : *next* => so, it kept the timings from XMP, at 3333MHz. SOC VID was not adjusted! it kept being 0.988V -> 0,925V

Findings: SOC VID on Renoir without functionality?!

3400 MHz / SOC VID = 1.12500V / XMP Timings : Valley => artifacts. (GPU-mem Clock: 1700MHz - so he's keeping the speed, SOC VID still 0,988V :/)

How can we raise SOC VID for Renoir?
Next test @3400MHz : relax timings, check for artifacts.

3400 MHz / Timings: 22-22-22-22-54-61 / 1T: Valley => artifacts. (GPU-mem Clock: 1700MHz, SOC VID still 0,988V :/)

Conclusion: Need to raise SOC VID. Not possible.
If SOC VID can be adjusted, the system could run @3600MHz without any problems.
Just think for yourself. It ran with XMP Timings on 3200,3333 and 3400 with SOC VID = 0,9 (~1.0V)
Renoir is amaizing.

I could try out 3600MHz with only "boot-to-windows" but no APU workloads. But I think it must not be done ;)
3600MHz seems to be reachable for me.

Cheers

That may be the reason why they removed adjusting SOC VID on the A300? Have you tried the 3.60S bios yet?

Well, we know on 3.60S it's removed even for Raven Ridge... Therefore it makes sense, that members are reporting good o/c value of renoir. But this is based on CPU, not the features of the Mainboard. I highly doubt 3.60S would put it back.

Stability-wise it's already worth an upgrade! Now have to look out for irregular system shutdowns.

One small noticeable difference:
@XMP the board does not increase SOC VID by itself. (Stays 1.0V instead 1.1V)
So even if the board does not figure it out. How could I do that as a user?

Edit1: Updated to 3.60S - no difference (SOC VID is gone). Lets perform some tests.
Stock @XMP 16-18-18-41-63 / 1T @3200 @1.0V -> Valley with 2080 Points <-- @3.60S
Best @XMP 16-18-18-41-63 / 1T @3333 @1.0V -> Valley with 2141 Points (new highscore) / 51.2fps <-- @3.60S gonna leave to this one.
Next @XMP 16-17-17-41-61 / 1T @3333 @1.0V -> Valley done, no artifacts, no crash.

Next @XMP 16-18-18-41-63 / 1T @3400 @1.0V -> at was good! but then it freezed.
Next @XMP 20-18-18-41-63 / 1T @3400 @1.0V -> crash / freeze ... seems to be VID not enough
Next @AUTO (
24-24-24-55-79 / 1T) @3400 @1.0V -> small artifacts followed by a freezing

Infinity Fabrics : Memory Controller : Memory Speed -> everything is trying to be 1:1:1 in terms of frequency.

But the system is more snappy than on the 2400G - basically there is no loading time
for apps first to start up. Even not pre-cached apps. Even apps that are as heavy as Spotify.
Instant loading time. I don't know how this difference (in comparison to 2400G) is possbile at all. No windows reinstallation needed.
Amaizing CPU.

So all in all, now I have a path I will continue to dig down:
- with time build a small system around 4650G (case, Mem, mobo, psu, laters dGPU)
- when done sofar, put 2400g back into a300 and run it as headless server replacing my NUC for this purpose.

Btw: after all those testing I can recommend using 3.60S for Renoir. It gives you about +5% performance out of the box.

What packaging did yours come in, a blue box?
It is a Tray version. The box appearance may vary, but yes, it was in a box :)
Unlike a "boxed" version which includes the fan. Mine was without a fan.

To be more special it was like a slot with two sides where the Ryzen was clipped in between and additional 5 more sockets for a CPU available in the tray. (Two columns with 3 rows each)

Ok, I bought it back in january already but not from the german Alternate site (local version .nl instead of .de) and mine came in a little blue antistatic box (but at the time you got the wraith stealth cooler with it as well for free). Had about 20 bent pins, if not more, but managed to straighten them out. But luckily you didn't get this packaging ...
