SFF.Network [SFF Network] NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti and 1050 Announced

The long-awaited 75W Pascal cards are almost here, with today's announcement of the NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1050. These new cards fill out the previously missing entry-level of NVIDIA's Pascal-series product stack. AnandTech has a great overview of the new cards but unfortunately there are no actual reviews yet. The retail release date is next week on the 25th, so presumably we'll see actual performance figures sometime close to that date.

Read more here.

The Zotac GTX 1050 Ti mini looks great with its single slot bracket (dual slot cooler though).

Drop an EK Thermosphere on it for some LC goodness:

GTX 1050 performs similar to a GTX 960. I expected it to be at least 20% faster than GTX 960. Bummer :(

It doesn't look like a 1080p capable card:

Edit: Still a great value at $110.

From what I'm reading the new chips overclock really well. In one review they were able to achieve a very stable overclock easily at 1911 MHz before they hit the power limit of the PCIe slot which I think yielded about a further 10% gain in frame rate with minimal thermal increases.

VRAM also hits a wall just past 2GHz. The MSI Gaming X doesn't make much sense to me with its 6-pin connector when the 75W cards I've seen perform about the same. For my money I'm getting a EVGA or Zotac.

Except a few models most 1050 Ti sit around 190 euros, while GTX 1060 3GB are around 220-230 euros. Zotac and Inno3D are the best priced at 150-160 euros, others don't make sense considering 1060 3GB price (unless you really need a PCIe powered card).

Personally, my card of choice would be the Gigabyte GTX 1070 Mini but I cannot justify the $400 price. So performance per dollar wise the card of choice to me seems to be the RX 480. It ticks all the boxes. And if you throw a wb on a ref pcb it transforms into a single slot itx card.

I see what AMD and Nividia are trying to do with RX460/470 and GTX 1050/1060 but however you look at it (like the 1070/1080) the performance does not justify the price. The low price cards can't perform and the high performing cards are over priced. The RX 480 sits in the sweet spot as I see it.

Oh man, the 1050ti is looking very attractive according to me.
Would almost use it instead of a 970 simply due to the power consumption

Seems like there is some weirdness going on with the overclocking. HardOCP (1050 ti), Guru3D (1050 ti & 1050), and TechPowerUp(1050ti & 1050) all got 1911mhz for the overclock on their cards (so 5 cards).

TechPowerUp also said this about it:
"GPU overclocking is capped too, at 1911 MHz actual frequency after GPU Boost, but the implementation seems buggy. The actual clock can still be increased even though 1911 MHz is displayed since the card will get increasingly unstable at higher frequencies."

Bios cap maybe? All 5 of those cards had 6 pin connectors (They were all MSI cards if I recall correctly)

According to the Hexus review of the 1050ti, 1900+ OC was also achievable without auxiliary power on the eVGA SC

http://m.hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/98329-evga-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-sc-gaming/?page=13

That's good news to read. The EVGA SC is on the top of my list for possible 1050Ti cards to buy.

Here's a review by Tom's Hardware which I like for their detailed breakdown on power consumption. They're using a MSI Gaming X instead of EVGA card, but the power measurements are also from the overclocked settings to 1911 Mhz. It has power spikes going past 75W in 1440p testing, probably handled by the 6-pin power connector that it has.

The best thing about the eVGA is that it is so short you can fit in into the S4 mini and have room at the front of the case to house an HDPlex 160W AC-DC. I'll be swapping it into my Orangulan build for the 950LP I bought once I get my replacement B85 Phoenix : )
