A warning for people here who are using Guryhwa's PSU at over 400 watts, make absolutely sure you're not using the "8-pin" version of his DC jack. I was using a GTX 1080ti at 120% power limit, and the resistance from the 400w pull caused the DC jack to get so hot that it began to desolder itself, thereby causing a chain reaction of gaining more resistance and eventually melting the connector:







Now, I messaged Gury and he showed me that he has an enhanced 12-pin socket and plug:



I do feel confident that this would be enough to keep things safe up to 500w, but it is worth keeping an eye on. When I bought his PSU he never mentioned it as an option. I offered to buy this one from him and see how it goes but he hasn't gotten around to replying yet.

In the meantime, I cut the ends off his cord and the jack, and soldered the positive and negative cables all directly to each other. Now in the new image, you can see the cabling remains cool because the resistance has decreased:



Overall I think Gury makes the best PSU on the market, and the PSU itself has been fantastic for me and always runs cool, but that jack is a weak link that doesn't have the ampacity for high wattage applications. I figured I better not wait any longer to bring it up, because it can be a fire hazard.

FWIW, I ordered a 450 watt unit from him that is currently in shipping. For me he didn't even give the 8pin as a choice, he told me I must use 12pin for my setup. Seeing a melted 8 pin connector is definitely concerning, but from my experience with Gury the moment I said 1080ti he told me I need the 12 pin connector.

Right, I wouldn't hold off on ordering if he's offering the 12-pin. I was one of the first people to order from him and probably one of the first to push my rig that hard. It's just a matter of physics; you need more copper to carry more amps; I think he initially misjudged how many watts that chokepoint could handle.

Like I said in my post, I think the PSU is great and I think Gury is brilliant and delivers a high-quality product, I'm going to buy more of these for future builds for sure. But I just wanted to bring it to people's attention as a matter of immediate safety.

Each pin can handle 8A. You have 4 hot pins and 4 ground pins so it's made to handle 32A. I would say above 320 or 350W system consumption you upgrade to a 12 pin.

All dell brick's dimension is 20cm*10cm*4.3cm original DC cable with 3pairs of 16awg wires in it,and dedicated 8pin DC-jack.(special 3pairs of 12awg ultra soft DC 1.2m cable , 12Pin dc jack is available)
i had already mention the update to 12P dcjack in 1# of this thread,anyone order my moddedbrick can choose to update the dc jack whichever version of brick was order,or i would give suggestion according to his hardware power consumption.
dell original terminal is heavily thicken type can handle 13A each pin,but if you have one of them not match firmly,will increase the resistance and heat.

i had provided you with extra large current banana plug,maybe you can use with it to directly connect to your meanwell,so you wont be afraid of burn the dell dcjack anymore

Damn, for a second I thought I had the 8 pin, luckily I have a 12 pin. That can handle a GTX 1080 TI and i7-7700k right?

Stock GTX 1080ti and i7-7700K can spike up to around 300W and 130W, with more realistic top ends being around 250W and 100W respectively at stock clocks. Adding in 50W for chipset, SSD, etc. and you're taking about a total maximum draw of around 400W, rapidly climbing if you want to overclock. Considering Molex connectors are rated at 8A per pin, at 12V this means the connectors are roughly rated for 96W per pair. This puts peak 12V throughput with the 8 pin at 384W and with the 12 pin at 576W. While a 10 pin would probably be the sweet spot here, 8 pin is pretty dangerous in my opinion.

As a sidenote, this is exactly why I opted to go with a 19V system for the Dynamo Combo. While you do lose about 6% in DC-DC conversion efficiency which of course means a tiny bit more heat in your case (up to 25W when pushing 500W), you get a lot more watts for your amps. Given the same connectors shown here, you could push 610W through the 8 pin connector that @Zero just fried and over 900W through the 12 pin. Using 24V which is also compatible with the Dynamo system would let you do 770W and 1152W respectively.

We could, but Intel is too busy make standards that don't stick like thin ITX and STX rather than updating our power standards.

Though the PC industry is very entrenched. I'm sure it's possible though. Create the new power standards and market it as "Premium power delivery" for enthusiasts with tidy 8 or 12 pin for motherboards instead of 24 pin. Then allow the tech to trickle down when there is some adoption.

Although we are greatly dependent on Intel's innovation, the enthusiast community COULD change the situation. What i am implying is the IEEE's Standards part, where we, as a community, could change the situation and make it towards better.

There IS however a point at which voltages are deemed less safe for humans and differently regulated depending on jurisdiction. The point is anywhere from 50-220V at 50mA. The 50mA is the point of where it is fatal. It just ranges from 50-220V because of resistance. Every human has different resistance.

I have seen 24V in action a few times, but i dont believe that 48V would be much more dangerous.
If properly handled and treated, there should not be any danger.
