Marketing: "Well, we've already printed the boxes and wrote the press releases that the card will have a backplate!"

Engineering: "Uh, well we could include a nice backplate but it'll increase the BOM a bit over the original budget."

Marketing: "No can do! The card has to have a backplate and it has to stay under budget and it needs to be done yesterday. Hop to it."

Engineering: "..."

Don't forget the bit where marketing don't know what they want until you put something in front of them and it's not what they want!

Gigabyte have announced that they are releasing a GTX 1060 ITX card, it looks like the exact same shroud as their 1070 version:

I'd be dead set on getting EVGAs 1060 if the Gigabyte one didn't have that sexy orange colour scheme. If only it had the dimensions of their old ITX cards.

Honestly just get some orange decal and cut it out to overlay the two silver decals on the EVGA. That'd be just as orange as the Gigabyte shroud and might actually fit in a space constrained case.

Eagerly anticipating this card. Haven't seen an official review yet, or seen the card in stock at Amazon or Newegg proper. Hard to find.

I love the PEG connector in this rendering:

If the PCB is actually this short, maybe one could make this relatively small by removing the fans and cutting off part of the heatsink.

Huh, they went with a bit more massive cooler this time. That rendering was indeed weird. Specs state it's a 8-pin though.

Wonder if it can run cool with the proper venting if you remove the shroud? As Josh did with the Zotac 970 in the S4 Mini.
