If compact size is a must, maybe .. get the T1 back and put its components into an S300 or S400?
That'd allow for more flexible fun with the T1 while your family member wouldnt lose anything :)

Could you run Argus monitor and let me know if it can control the cpu fan (and would it be possible to use a "sys" fan header for the cpu)? Also does it support PCIe bifurcation on the slot?
Well I used & tested Fan Control on the BD790i. Results were a bit odd :
  • On the Cha1 channel, I was able to control the fan without any issue
  • On the CPU channel, my control over the fan was far from behind perfect, as if MB was clearly interfering with Fan control.
  • Conclusion : I stopped using fan control as it was only for 1 set of fans (exhaust GPU) that I finally controlled through bios (constant curve @300rpm..:))
Regarding bifurcation, I cannot confirm @100% (I'm not using it), but it was added on BD770i (BD790i and BD770i are sharing the same bios) on bios 1.04

Thanks for the reply. One more thing: Do you know if it's possible to "unlock" the tdp for the CPU in the bios to increase it past the, I believe, 100w max?

No. 100W is top max TDP imposed by AMD on this processor.

I wonder how hard it is to unlock that.

This redditor with the intel version of the motherboard unlocked their bios with some OSS tool:
There is also: https://github.com/DavidS95/Smokeless_UMAF which doesn't require any flashing (and works on this "dragon" series according to redditors).
Thanks. I was not aware of this mod.
Afterwards, looking at the temperature reached, CPU will downclocked anyway.

Hi! Have you tried AATU utility. Is a third party app for mobile processor that should let you undervolt the CPU with a curve optimizer.
Could you try it and tell me if it works?

No I didn't try it, sorry.

I don't have direct access to this computer setup (it is within my family).

I ordered the BD790i with a NR200P Max Case (which includes a CPU watercooler). Since this is a soldered mobile CPU I am curious what tools I would need in order to install it (back plates, mounts, etc.) As far as I have seen the holes in the MB are in 52mm - 56mm distance, less than the regular LGA sockets.

In some other forum someone pointed to Watercool NSB Blocks (intended for North/Southbridges) but I am not sure if they had actually used or tested this. Or if such a small Chipset Watercooler can actually cool a 100W CPU. Since never having had a Watercooling before, I would need some opinios on that.
Alternatively, I can simply work with a 12cm Noctua Fan as everyone else does... but hey if installing the watercooler is rather simple to achieve, than I'd prefer that route.

Well I would not recommend it without very good knowledge on direct die cooling.
Basically it would be like a mobile CPU without any IHS. Without expertise you cannot replace this CPU cooler.
Issue is with BD790i paired with a NR200, airflow would be mediocre for the BD790i. (I've tested it inside the S620)

What would be the risk to use a GPU Universal waterblock (such as the Ek Vga Supremacy) and the right length standoffs to avoid putting too much pressure on the chips ?

BTW I might be wrong but I measured the holes to be 52x52mm.

As long as you have experience, the risks would be minimized..:)

Thanks for the responses. The EK VGA Supremacy does look a bit more potent than the Watercool NSB cooler I found. Thanks. Also thanks for measuring. Could you outline the risks a bit for me? I mean I can imagine a liquid spill... but there must be some guides on how to prevent these?! Whats the stuff that could go wrong? I am guessing that watercooler connections are somewhat standardized, right? so removing the coolermaster block and simply plugging a different one should or could work, right? Or would this already be a mess, since the liquid is already in there? Also, in the images of the NR200P MAX manual, there seems to be a backplate, with 4 pins stickung from the back to the top of the MB, what does the mounting mechanisms of watercoolings usually look like? I cant seem to find the exact model of the collermaster watercooling that will be included....

One argument against EK VGA Supremacy seems to be that its end of life and no one seems to sell it.

I've mentioned that one because I have two of them, and will fit the 52x52 mounting holes :) any GPU universal waterblock will do. Or, if you have the budget, the Liquid Extasy waterblock looks great.
Nice find @MarcParis
