Increase volume from 9.8L to 10.5L to support MSI Suprim X 30XX?

  • Yes, worth the trade off to be more compatible with components

  • No, not worth it b/c it is not better than the ROG 30XX, which fits now at <10L

Spent a few hours testing my current build. Summary of my setup:
  • Mounted all 3 fans, then (1) disconnect the push-pull fan to simulate 2 slim fans, or (2) disconnect the slim fan PSU side to simulate 1 full + 1slim fan setup
  • All fans are exhausting air out of the top, all panels are fully closed
  • Results are taken from Cinebench R23 10 min Throttling test, then let the system cooldown between 10-15min for coolant temp to reset (39C)
  • For reference my ambient is 28-29C, the Scythe Slipstream fan used is the 2000RPM version, the radiator is Bitspower Leviathan SF240 and A12x15s were shaved off 2mm to fit the case without bulge
Here are the results:

Push-pullCoolant tempCPU (Tctl/Tdie)CPU PPTPumpFans
MB sidePSU sideOver PSU(T_sensor C)(Max C)(Max W)(Max RPM)(Max RPM)
A12x13A12x13A12x2544.083.0148.328241573

SlipstreamA12x1347.085.5150.132291656
SlipstreamSlipstream48.086.3150.433331783

Observation:
  • Obvious #1: more fans and bigger fans is better 1 full + 2 slim > 1 full + 1 slim > 2 slim
  • Obvious #2: the Scythe fan is no match for the king of slim fan A12x15. each fan loses by 1C in terms of coolant temp
  • Not so obvious: the A12x25 is so powerful that it normalises and cancels out any differences between the slim fans - both in 3 fans and 1 full + 1 slim config
Conclusion:
  • For best temp, always go 3 fans and the bigger the fan the better - did not have a 3rd A12x15 or a 3rd Slipstream but don't think they will ever be able to match the A12x25
  • For balanced temp and convenient, go 1 full + 1 slim fan if you can make sure the slim fan clears the edge of the motherboard
  • For slim fans, always go Noctua A12x15 so just stick to 27mm or slimmer rad
@Wahaha360 this is a long way in saying I really want you to make that ultimate SFF rad happen - 17mm core, high FPI & multi-ports 😇😇😇
I'd like to see "1x A12x15 + A12x25 (both push)" and "3x A12x15" added to the comparison. I think the conventional wisdom is that push works better than pull and I know Navic's build went with the former. It'd be nice to see the full picture.

the problem is it's not practical for my particular build to do either because:
  • 1x A12x15 + A12x25 -> the original A12x15 would hit the edge of the motherboard when I tried it with the EK AIO, now it's literally impossible being 2mm off the intake side
  • 3x A12x15 -> the A12x25 is so snug in there I have to basically disassemble the build to replace it with a slim one.
Let someone else do the 'fun' part I suppose 🤣

I've had a few thoughts for top mounting brackets.

Currently I'm stacking a couple of the provided brackets to raise my Corsair H60 reservoir up. This is just to clear the fan from the power supply cables.

Has anyone created anything like these? I figure it would be pretty straightforward to cut the metal and bend it.

Hey, can someone please confirm the riser cable included will allow SAM for the 6800 XT / 5600X to work?
No not yet. It might work, but if it uses pci4 then no.
It appears that pci4 will not be required for SAM on AMD.
Nvidia meanwhile have stated that Sam will also work on their cards and that they will enable it via a driver update.
They are currently working on it, and will prob only be brought to ampere with pci4.

Hmm, I believe the current version (not the test shipping batch, but the ones after) allow mounting directly to top panel so that would basically support moving the rad and fan away from the PSU cables.

Thanks for the help, I really need to know this for sure, so if anyone can help out.. Otherwise I will just go Ncase M1.

The bigger problem is a riser cable compatible with amd. This has been discussed already, and it's just not on the market yet.
There are pci4 risers, but tolerances for the AMD cards are different so there is no guaranteed working riser on the market yet.

Minor suggestion for any new FormD T1 revisions.

Please create/ship the 3-slot mobo bracket with the ability to do 2.5 or 2.7 slot mode.

The reason for this is that my 3080 is currently using the 3-slot mobo bracket but 2-slot GPU bracket setup and I noticed that my GPU temps are at LEAST 5c cooler at the same fan speeds and undervolt setting. I imagine that having the extra breathing room between the mobo and the GPU allowed the exhaust fans to pull away more heat, especially for the Radeon 6800XT that are at LEAST 2.5 slot size.

Just a suggestion...

the is how I have my water-cooled 3090 as well - I mainly did this as my rocket nvme on the backside was getting super hot.

Huh! Could anyone take a photo of that?

Did anyone try the EVGA 3080 XC3 black edition in the FormD T1 in 2-slot mode to see if it fits? There was like 0.7mm difference or something ridiculous like that i recall. Does it really not fit (without bulge in mesh)

Someone has tried it, and while it can fit, if you put any pressure on the side panel whatsoever, it will rub up against the fans. Best to just get a thicker card and put it in 3 slot mode.

Thing is i have an obsession, maybe unhealthy, to not use water cooling in my builds. NH-L12S air cooler is what i am aiming for. I know i just shot myself in the foot with this choice, since it eliminates 99% of GPUs out there.. but well, i'm a patient man.

Nah, it fits like a glove mate.

Does it? Any pictures or posts about this? It would give me a 2nd alternative to the FE.

got my new setup running and it seems like its feasible to cool a RTX3090 and 3950X with a 360 rad space. Currently using a DDC, but will change out to D5 with my new fittings gets here.

Where's PSU?

Yooooo this is very cool! I think you're using a G unique solution? So with a short block and no SFX PSU you must have fit a nice T H I C C 120mm in there? More specs and pics!
